Exhaust tips

My 2009 2.3's exhaust tips have seen better days. I tried to polish them and succeeded in removing a lot of dirt but is clear that they cannot be polished back to original.
Reading on here is appears that they are easyish to remove. Tap the back with a mallet sort of job, maybe with some wood as a buffer.
So question is, is this true and are all E89's 2009 exhaust tips stuck on the same way? Any good tips on doing it (pardon the pun).
Last thing I want is to mess up the exhaust.
Also I have see these replacements on amazon:

Are either of these suitable, any others that people have bought?

Cheers all

Firstly did you clean with ultra fine wire wool 00000 grade and some brasso or similar metal polish?
Mine just came up pretty well with this from a pretty bad state.

I used autosol but just with a cloth, not wire wool. Maybe I should try again but looks like after removing the black crap underneath they are areas of slight shine but others look like the chrome has come off. Although I may need to try the wire wool on it

All E89s EXCEPT 35i/35is have push on tips..tap the in board edge with a rubber mallet..

Thank you

Happy tapping…

If you clean them too vigorously you go through the top coat of finish and end up with a second different layer…Solvol Autosol is your friend  to

I may have gone through the first layer using autosol. Maybe the grime was abrasive when I was cleaning them

So I have had a go at trying to remove the tips in anticipation of the new ones coming in a few days.
The old ones are not budging, not a bit. I appreciate they have been stuck on for 15 years but reading threads on here it appeared to be a simple job. Ive lubricated, inside (from the back), small hammer and wood. Not moving. Im afraid to go gung ho at it. So any other ideas?

I recently helped someone get their E89 tips off and it did require some heavy hitting to get them started.

Hitting at the back? there is little room to get a good smack

I've actually manged to get one off. Bit more force and longer piece of wood. Other one is harder though as difficult to get the wood on something

Yeah all done. left one was harder to get at so had to resort to a chisel to hit with a hammer at one area that I could get at with the right angle.
They look worst for wear tbh as expected

Also the amount of stuff that came out of the second one was amazing, looks like tarmac!

Also whist doing it I noticed an earth strap loose above the exhaust behind the bumper. Looks like nut has disappeared. I put the strap back on just looking for a suitable nut to secure it.
Is this strap a vital thing?

An earth strap?

Any idea what size nut, couldn't find it on realoem- tho only had a quick look. Is it M8?

One assumes helps to ground exhaust for the O2 sensors.
Back up for the manifold bolts.

These have sooty exhausts. I assume BMW have large start up cylinder clearances burning oil, mine burns about 1 litre in 8k miles.
Engine designed to run quite hot for efficiency.
My car barely gets anywhere near in winter.
Think water pump will last forever.
