Exhaust tips

20190905_175354.jpgI think with a little coaxing they come off the 3.0, I had mine repolished professionally for ÂŁ20 and they came up like new, they are stainless steel and to replace from bmw your looking at ÂŁ80 each. I've also got some cheap aftermarket ones I got from amazon for ÂŁ20, when they get dirty I just pull them off and use stainless steel cleaner on them

I've had one off to attempt a clean but they're pretty rough. At least one of the clips was corroded and broke off.

No comment!

eBay or Amazon sellers will flog you some of the correct size. They are bound to be better quality than the originals, which are shocking IMO! :)

Just took mine off after seeing this thread….must say, they came off pretty easily (with the use of a piece of wood and a gentle tap from the hammer). Used autoglym wheel cleaner and some wire wool…massive difference! However, my sons getting married next Friday and we’re going in the zed to the venue…might look into those chrome ones now though…😍

If you are referring to the ones in my first picture... they are not chromed, they are the original tips once the metal polisher had done his magic (only charged ÂŁ20), I've not put them back on the car still in a box in the garage. The cheapo ones from Amazon are still doing the job (with a little spray of stainless steel cleaner now and then)

Sorry to jump on the thread but does anyone know if the tips on the 35i come off easy??

Not as easy, they’re welded on, a couple of spot welds per tip iirc

As Andy says welded on…but…faced with that issue I found Solvol Autosol and some elbow grease did a great job

Elbow grease it is then.. I was looking at changing the tips to the Carbon Fiber style Akropovic ones

Each to their own..I looked at various options including replacing all the system..

I’m on a classical look strategy so IMHO the faux Akropovic tips are ‘naff’…but each to their own….try the Autosol and see what gives ?
