exhaust tips cleaning

I made this device which includes the 0000 wire wool, the least aggressive material you can use.



I use that with a bit of autosol as well for the polishing action for some stubborn stains.

I found the products that you can buy too course, as the more you scratch the metal, the more "bits" will embed themselves into the tiny scratches that other products would leave.

Having used this on Saturday (this exact one, no less!) it works wonders. Took some of the previous marks clean out in less than a minute for each pipe.

Previously swore by my Britemax Twins but thinking about combining the two for excellence.

Daft question Paul (but you know my DIY capability!) but can you buy the round wooden discs? :oops:
 
No, I measured the exhaust pipes of the M, and made the discs just a bit smaller to ensure that the wire wool would go over the sides.

I gave a spare set I made to Steve - and he obviously does not use them so perhaps he can mail them to you :poke:

I had a cloth version I purchased for the JCW, but the diameter is about twice that of the M given the 'slightly' oversized pipes on the mini. Am sure I can order some round discs of wood somewhere!
 
Do you have the wire wool sandwiched between 2 wooden plates an tighten with the nut so everything spins at drill speed

If you buy a hole saw of the correct size the slug that comes out will have a central hole that will take a 6mm bolt
 
Exactly did that.





The carriage bolt holds the disk in place. The second disk is put on top with the nut against it, it will not spin about as the square inner head of the bolt holds the disk in place.
