Exhaust Tip Question

The chrome on my exhaust tips has all corroded and looks awful, so I would like to change the tips.

I was wondering, are there any other tips apart from the standard 3.0i tips that fit? I love the look of the carbon fibre Akrapovic tips, so I wondered if they would fit at all? Or any other good looking carbon alternatives?

I think the standard tips are held on with grub screws of such like but are a bugger to get off . So you could probably replace them .
 
Tips on a 3.0si are held on by tension clips, so its just a case of twisting and pulling them to work them free.
 
If you want to get it done on the cheap you could remove the caps and respray them silver... I think redzedfour did this on his coupe.

They were powder coated as bit of an experiment they looked good but after a year on the car the heat had give them a bit of a yellow tinge.
Will post some pics if I've still got them :thumbsup:
 
If you don't want to stay stock any custom exhaust shop will have a whole range of tips that can either be easily cut and welded onto the back box or pipe, or in some case slid over the pipe then locked on with a small bolt or grub screw.

Does anyone know off hand what the diameter is of the bare (without tips) 3.0i pipes? Also I am assuming that the pipes are the same as a 330i? That way I can broaden my search a bit more, seeing as the 3 series is a bit more popular than the Z...

The 3 series is more popular than the Zed, that will win you friends on here! ;-)
 
You can't assume a 330 will have the same diameter pipe. BMW just mess around with pipes on the backbox for looks. Iirc for instance the 2.0 exits as 2 pipes and merge to 1 tip.
 
Never knew that, but it just looks cheap to me. Much prefer a double barrel ...
