I think mine could be seized or faulty, looked seized and like it hasn't been open for a while so i gently opened it and it has remained open since. I would therefore think it is now modified? Maybe now its moved and once its proper warmed up on a run, it might close again?

Seen this mod over the years but inspired by the video link I've just tried it on my 35i. Look for "vacuum caps" or similar - 5mm is the size.

Very easy to do but not really worth a lot. As the video shows it's a little more "crackly" at start up but that's about it. I'll leave it for a few weeks but then probably return it to standard. The thing that did surprise me was the strength of the actuator spring on the flap.
Still, you don't know if you don't try.

There was a link on another thread the other day that said they were 4mm internal diameter. Are those 4mm?
Mine make a little noise when opening/closing which on country lanes is annoying because it sounds louder. At least I hope it’s the flap!
Thinking of doing this mod. Have you seen itsjoel on YouTube? He has the precious gem Z4 (e86?) and says that Carly can open the flap when the app is running, so if I get Carly and it does the same, I could test it that way (obviously wouldn’t get it just for that!)

Don't know about 4mm.
I ordered 5mm, received 5mm and on they went without a problem and didn't feel like they were going to fall off.
The site says the actual I/D is 4.8mm with a wall thickness of 1mm.
I ordered 4 and used 2. Anyone passing Solihull PM me and call in. You can have the 2 left over.
