Exhaust swap?? 2.0 to 3.0

Been to see my friend today and said I want more noise/performance from my 2.0i he mentioned about putting a universal back box on but really don't fancy doing this. He then mentioned about put a 3.0l exhaust on currently on the 2.0 it has a single pipe front to back but the manifold looks like its splits to 2 where's as the 3.0 is a twin all the way.

My question is can the 3.0 exhaust system be put on 2.0 and will it match up with the current manifold and couple straight on???

No idea but why not a put the bypass pass pipe on? And if you cut the top off and remove the wadding you will get a good noise. I have done a quad on a 2.0l and it sounded great

 like this

As monkey says, bypass pipe and wadding removal will give you the best sounding BMW ever made :D but that might just be my opinion :D

Also I'm not sure if/how/why but I swear my car gained some torques after it was finished... Maybe I just put more pedal on because of the sound :)

Deffinately worth an exhaust mod of some kind on the 2.0

Looking at the manifold on realoem, it looks like you COULD do a swap of the whole central / rear section for that on a 3.0i.
However, you'd need to be drilling holes in your existing manifold to accomodate the bolt holes of the 3.0i exhaust.

All guesswork tho

Not sure what you would gain by putting a 3.0i exhaust on a 2.0i. Yes it has 2 pipes from the manifold to the exhaust but they go into the same restrictive chamber system in the back box. Be interesting to hear how it goes though.

No, you wont gain with that change. The back box are completely diferent.
Well No they're not.... The only difference is that on the 2.0i one of the inlet holes is welded up and on most the twin outlets are formed into a single oval.

Sounds like a LOT of effort for something that will eventually corrode. Why not just get a bespoke stainless jobbie. They don't cost much and should come with a lifetime warranty.

Standard exhaust is stainless. But the standard exhaust can also be modified quite easy. I would look at changing what you have instead of getting a 3.0l.

OP if your ever down my way i would be happy to help out.
