Had an eisenmann race back box on my e85 3.0 I
I now own a e89 3.5i and currently saving the pennies to get an eisenmann race setup for it.
As good as it sounds, I’m still missing the eisenmann way too much!!! Can’t wait to hear it on this little beauty, check out some YouTube videos -e85/86 -89 eisenmann exhausts .... absolute quality

I’ve just fitted the “eBay exhaust” to my e86.
The sound is super, not too loud or at all droney. Much more character low down and pops and crackles all the way up and down. Fitting was easy once the flanges had been rotated for the N52.
I did have the Warren engineering bypass pipes on the backbox but I still wanted more...

Mine has a DLV modified OE backbox. I love it. Not too loud and doesn’t drone, but sufficient volume increase and aggressive sound, particularly as the revs rise, to create an almost permanent grin. Some lovely pops and crackles as well. Being a modified box it looks completely stock though.

I run an Eisenmann Sport backbox which i think sounds really good and well-balanced between noise and daily usability. The car had a backbox delete when i first purchased it which was a lot of fun at first, but as the car is a daily, it got tiring within the first month or so. I also think the sound of the Eisenmann is generally much better - it's more raspy and throaty whereas the backbox delete was very boomy, 'flabby' sounding, and totally lacking any shape. Anyway, it's all down to personal preference and how you use the car.

i was thinking about how some folk say it can be droney, and im wondering if this is related to the 5 speed box, the ratio would be higher and i suspect cruising speed sits right on the drone point around 2.5k-3.0k area, also i do very little constant speed motorway type of driving and so even if it did drone i wouldn't notice.

I'm sure all exhausts vary but the noise with mine is less about rpm and more about how much pressure is being applied to the accelerator. 70mph and a slight incline is much louder than 70mph flat and if going downhill even if the revs are above 3000 in 6th there's very little drone. Similarly I can't just make the exhaust quiet when driving round town by sticking it into 5th or 6th.

I have made the comment because many have said there is a drone present, and also seeming many others say there is no drone, I remember listening to the exhaust note before the dlv was fitted for that very reason and noted there was " potential" for a drone, but i ultimately dont have one. As many are interested in making a more sporty noise it seems reasonable to try and work out the conditions where it is most likely to occur. Perhaps its the manifold, perhaps its the exhaust , perhaps its the engine. we also know that almost every car sounds a little different, even when seemingly identical to another.

That’s fair enough and I’ll watch this thread with interest as wouldn’t mind trying to reduce the noise of mine a bit.

The noise is good, would just be nice if there was a way to reduce the drone so it sounded closer to stock when the revs weren't as high. Maybe it's a case of you can't have your cake and eat it. Presumably a bit of drone is inevitable and there will always be a tradeoff. It's not really noisy so I wouldn't want to go to big expense, but would spend a couple of hundred to tweak it.
