Exhaust sound - is this normal?

Only had my used Z4 a few weeks and never driven one before - the predominant sound from the car seems to be the exhaust - is this normal? It's quite boomy and I'd rather hear the engine if poss! Maybe I'm not letting it rev enough but I've been surprised how torquey the engine is (2.5Si) so haven't felt the need to really cane it.

I had the top down for the first time yesterday and I noticed that the exhaust noise was less prominent then.

As far as I know it's the stock exhaust.

the OEM Z4 2.5 / 3.0 exhaust is very quite and defiantly not boomy

sounds like you are getting some 'cabin drone'?

It can be retroffited. I doubt it's the problem though to be honest as it's more of an induction sound. I can hardly hear the exhaust note on my 3.0i SE, it's nearly all engine. Is the exhaust on your car OEM?

As far as I know it's OEM.

I probably need to get someone else to hear it to see if it's normal.

"Boomy" is probably the best word to describe the noise - I suppose it may not be the exhaust but that's what sprang to mind

I have heard cars sound pretty loud and boomy when they have a hole in the muffler... Don't think you would hear much exhaust noise on a normal z4 tho. I really have to give mine some stick to hear it over engine / music noise
