Exhaust resonator removal?

Has anyone here removed any of their exhaust resonators? It's a common mod on the E46s and makes the exhaust sound much better (I think it's far too quiet standard).

I took mine (3.0) to an exhaust shop, they put it up on the lift, and looking at the underneath its pretty much a straight through design all the way to the back box. They said taking out resonators etc, wont make any real difference on our cars.

Changing the back box however will make a major difference. I was going to change mine, but I have decided to change the rear box and add quads at the same time, so just trying to find somewhere that will do it at the right price atm

I wonder what makes the exhaust so muted then? I would of thought that if the Z4 had straight through pipes it would sound like the cars in the clips I posted links too?

I removed the resonator as a part of the conversion I did. It's purpose is to tune the exhaust note to one that was deemed as most liked by focus groups. It's also a system balancer.

Removal will make little difference to noise levels, nor performance

It's the extremely large back boxe that silences so effectively

Looks like I'll be replacing the rear silencer then! Has anyone used these guys? Seems very reasonably priced.
