Exhaust query

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can advise.
At around 60mph my car is quite lound coming from the backbox of the exhaust. Tbh im finding its a pain as most of my driving is around this speed.
Is it possibly a modified backbox or do they all do it?

If its modified it will be coming off.

Any advice... its a 2.5si

Hi, the oem exhaust is very muted so I’d say yours has been altered or is defective in some way? :?

As above bmw put a tame box in. Loads on here have gone for a modified box so that’s very likely. annoyingly in your case you can’t normally tell by looking at them from below.

Mm thats frustrating, im a long way by wanting noisy exhausts. Its normal sounding elsewhere too...which is wierd
I'll try get it on a ramp and have a look.see if there are any clues
Anyone got any idea how much a new back box is??

Unless it’s like yours Tom and the OP just finds a pipe there and no silencer.

Check if the pipes have been cut and joined with connectors.

I have a back box that'll fit a 2.2/2.5 that I'm willing to part with.

i don’t think that would be a like for like swap as the 2.5si shares the same exhaust as the 3.0si - happy to be proven wrong :)

Either as Silver says or maybe it's modified eg DLV. If it is stock but DLVd I'd be happy to swap it for my standard non modified back box that I took off when doing my back box delete. That is if you are local to Sussex/Surrey/Hampshire and assuming that it is the back box that is your issue. Not sure how you'd check if it's been DLVd - maybe see for weld marks where baffles were accessed or contact Mike (DLV) with index number. He might recall the car.

Had the same idea for a swap - beat me to it :)

Looks like it will be easy to shift if it is a modded box. Doesn’t DLV mark his with ‘DLV’ on the top?

I wonder if it’s blowing from the rusty old connections and the sound traveling to make it sound like the rear.

Id certainly be up for swapping for a standard one, but its looking like it is standard. Will get an exhaust place to pur it on a ramp and have a good look about the system

if its a dlv version you wont know till you get it off as it been surgically cut, guts removed and welded back up with the intention it cant be recognised as gutted without removing it, which of course mot folk cant do

i see there is a scramble for it so i wont throw my hat in - but damn,,, :headbang: just what i want..

Hi, I don’t think the 2.0 e85 backbox is a straight swap with the 6 cylinder versions? :?
