I'm looking for an aftermarket stainless steel exhaust for my 23i. Seen a couple if bespoke suppliers on eBay and have been in touch with them. I know that Milltek do one for the 35i but does anyone know of other suppliers and or have experience of the sounds/tones?

Cheers

Researched a few:

Anyone had experience of these exhausts?

Style Dynamics have had some mixed reviews.

My friend however has had nothing but good experiences with them (having had a about 3 different setups from them on his golf.

The alignment is pretty much perfect with VW's spec, to the point all the technicians were actually fooled into thinking the car was a gti/r32.

How does the price compare with the manufactures replacement?
Obviously if its decent stainless it will last and thus offset any cost if more expensive.

I find BMW exhausts pretty good to be honest and decent balance between noise when you want it but refined when you don't, my Z3 is still on its 13 year original. I would go for a decent custom so you can explain to the fitter the sound your after otherwise a cheapish stainless steel exhaust will just drone at high speed. My own experience of aftermarket non custom exhausts is theyre not always a perfect fit and have been more trouble than they're worth so I would definitely go for a decent custom build,

Thanks Tim - I am tempted to go for the £650 duel exit quads as they also will talk to me about what I am after. The only concern I have is that they will be cutting to make space for the opposite tailpipes. A little twitchy about that!!

I've had SS exhausts on most of the cars I have owned, some for noise, some for better looking shiny SS plus the lifetime warranty as the original exhaust on a previous car fell off. the aftermarket replacement was much better quality than the OEM plus cheaper too.

They should make a template for cutting the bumper for the extra tail pipes and should hopefully be used to doing this.

I bought an off the shelf Eisenmann system for a previous MINI Cooper S, cost a fair bit at the time, I think 840 quid and sounded fantastic but it just wasn't happy on the car, i.e. knocking and one of the boxes came adrift and after repeating refitting it melted the rear valence so off it came and had to buy a new OEM exhaust  complete mare, so I'm always a little jittery with exhausts lol.
