I think Andy's may be just back boxes but I'm not sure.
Tbh.. I couldn't remember either, so i said backboxes, but after seeing the For Sale thread and the pics, it's definitely Catback too, which is why I've had the performance increase.
I remembered this is sitting in my garage:

hmm.. thats interesting, the connectors on the rear boxes on the standard x pipe are flanged, where as the pics of he H&S rear boxes they sent me are clear sleve fitting... i wonder if that means they do 2 types of back box, then i guess it would be difficult to add the x pipe later!

Hmm... that's also interesting as I was thinking of getting a set of rear boxes from H & S but discounted the idea because the rear boxes I have are sleeve fit. They must do both I guess.

RPI sounds the best to me but cant decide from the YouTube vids if I'd prefer more noise on the low end revs or more on the high end revs a la supercar sound

Which options remove the 2 backboxes and are straight out? Are any of these exhausts stainless steel or would that be too noisy?

alexman, the RPi's are really quite a love it or hate it, kind of setup. I'll be brutally honest and admit that when i first installed them i was disappointed. So much volume! You cant even hear the engine note from inside the cabin anymore. Plus the drone at 2.9-3.1k RPM is very annoying.. Everything fades away though when you take it to some twisty backroads and nail that heel-and-toe downshift and listen to that bark! They're just not for everyone so you should know what you're getting into.

If you can then you should listen to a few setups in person and then make a decision. I couldnt do that as i'm stuck on this island with maybe 5 other Z4M's in the country and i dont know where any of them are! I took a chance on the RPi and even though at the beginning i thought i'd made the wrong choice it's really grown on me.

While the engine note / stock sound is great it is very subtle. I don't want a massive bark (so maybe not the H&S) but just want it to sound more like the power it produces without sounding like a boyracer Fiesta with a big exhaust (so it has to really "sing" the engine note)..

What's the best "supercar sounding" exhaust option?

At part throttle and at under 3-3.5k the RPi is VERY bassy and one could even say chav-ed up Corsa-like but press on and the sound is not unlike 2/3 the way to a Ferrari V8.

One thing though mate, you say you dont want a massive bark like the H&S, well the RPi is definitely louder than them. No question. I mean just check out the size of the silencer (if you can call it that), it's barely thicker than the pipe itself! I really like mine and dont mind its antisocial qualities, in fact i find them quite amusing, but should you choose them you should know what to expect.

They're on my to-do list but i dont have a camera and my mate who has one is pretty busy. Beedub's already posted a couple of his though right here.

Ideally you need to listen to these 'in person'. The first set of back boxes I had fitted produced RPI sound or greater :) They ruined the car when you just wanted to sit back cruise and listen to the stereo. Touch the accelerator and 'loud' even pulling away slowly :(

When I was booting it around the twisties it sounded incredible the bark turned to a ripping snarl at high revs. The second set of boxes I had fitted are much quieter producing a more bassy sound that turns to a louder roar at higher revs. There's pops and bangs on over-run but they aren't too loud. In short it's a compromise.

cat-back supersprint street fitted, together with a gruppeM intake.
i really like the sound... similar to a v8 burble at low revs, then above 4k has a similar sort of rasp to a modern 911 flat 6.
also pops on overrun... nothing too loud/crazy tho.
can occasionally get a little droney in the cabin whilst cruising at low revs... but not a major bother by any standards,
had the car nearly a year and still never fails to make me smile.
sorry dont have any videos to share.
