I’m trying to understand what a bit is on my exhaust any ideas?

I recon it’s the original system. I want to know what the rectangular box between the 2nd cat and rear silencer is? There is one in each branch.

Can I just cut them out and replace with a straight pipe? One of them on mine seems to have failed on the seam weld.

Also is this system stainless? I’m guessing so as I e never replaced it.
 
Presumably you have a pre-facelift model? Probably a good idea to confirm age and engine.
Are you saying there is one 'box', or one on each pipe?
