Exhaust emmissions value light on

was just driving the car home this evening and started to get a hesitation and slight jumping between 2-3k rpm. After leaving the car for an hour the same problem still existed and shortly into my journey the Exhaust emmissions value light came on lit yellow.

Any ideas.. is it worth calling BMW out now or leave it until the morning and see if if goes away?

Cheers

lambda sensor failing, common fault on M's. The codes will say which one, it has to be changed as there is no way of cleaning them apparently...

No doubt more mechanically minded folk will diagnose better than I but it sounds like it might be the infamous O2 sensor failure which seems to afflict most M's at some point. Mine's had one go. If you are still covered by warranty it will cover it.

Well it only took 20 mins to do mine last time,so that plus part shouldn't be THAT much.

Ive had both mine go.
I wonder if there covered for 12 months as a new part, even if you have no warranty?

There's four Lambda or O2 sensors, two on the exhaust manifolds and two right after the catalytic converters. Mine went a few months into my ownership (the car was almost 4 years old used) and they've gone again about a year after i changed all four :headbang:

Wanted to add that i did not experience the symptoms the original poster mentioned, at least not right away, i had the car scanned at the dealer and they confirmed my suspicions that it was indeed my oxygen sensors (after a couple of days of them telling me that the catalytic converters had failed... HOW??). I asked them if it would be OK if i drove around like for a while until i get the parts in and they said it would be OK. Anyway at first the car ran fine, but after a couple of weeks it started running noticeably richer and a while later it started hesitating until 3k and then surging and jumping right after 3k. This eventually got worse at the point where i stopped running the car until the sensors finally arrived, once i changed them it was all good as new...

So yes bensz4mc, it might just be the sensors going.
