Exhaust Emissions Telltale

Hi All,
Had engine (exhaust emissions) warning light come on yesterday on my '04 2.5.
Just had chance to go and have a look and found a split in the small convoluted rubber air intake pipe between airbox and engine.
Sorry for the slightly poor description but I'm ot overly technical as far as engines go!
Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere to find a part number so I can try and order from Joe@Sopers.
I'm assuming the car is still ok to drive until the part arrives and I'm also assuming that, once the part is replaced, after 10 starts the warning light will go off so I don't have to rush to get it reset straight away. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Andy

You'll find the part number from www.realoem.com.

I also think you will find this isn't your issue though it also needs fixing. You will probably find you have a faulty O2 sensor.

Thanks for the reply.
Had a look on realoem but unfortunately still can't find the part.
Maybe I'll take a photo and post it to Joe@Soper and hope he can find it.
I am hoping this is the only issue though.
In another thread on here, others have said split hoses have caused this light to come on so fingers crossed.

Spot on order from stealers only £24.00 fit 5 mins will have to have computer reset though, but if you have a freindley indy no probs no charge, car now back to normal, ran car for a week untill chance to fix nother 200 miles no probs. :driving:

I had a split rubber intake just after buying my zed. Haven't looked at the parts etc above to confirm whether its the same one, but mine was fixed by John Clarks BMW in Dundee. The part was £67 +VAT.

Initially when the emissions light came on I thought it would be an O2 sensor....

Thanks for your help guys - really appreciate it.
Having spent ages looking on realoem I think I've found the right bit.

Item 5 looks like the right thing.
Mine is split on the small convoluted section.
Hopefully that's the right bit and it solves the problem!!

Update:
I ordered the new hose from Sopers as it was cheaper than I could get it from my local dealer. It arrived today so I fitted it tonight - took about 10 mins.
I borrowed an OBDII reader from a mate at work which showed error code P0174 - bank 2 lean. I was able to reset the engine light so all good.
But another question....
I've now looked at OBDII readers on ebay and it seems, without spending a fortune, there are three options. Interface types to use with a laptop, hand held units which display a code which needs looking up in a manual or hand held units which display the code and description on screen.
I'm thinking that either the interface cable type or the code and description on screen type would be the way to go but which is the best option? Is there somewhere better to get them from than ebay?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I had same thing last year. Tell tale light came on. Took it to a local BMW specialistin Stockton-on Tees who plugged it in and the fault indicated an air leak. When they checked the vehicle they found a split in the rubber boot trunking. Not very technical with cars but it sounds like the same thing as what has gone on yours. It is near the top of the engine and on the passenger side of the engine. The part code was 1.00 13.54.7.514.880 and the description on the invoice was rubber boot. The part was fitted and all perfect again since. The part was ordered from local BMW dealership by the BMW specialist. The price was £19.09p plus VAT. This was in July last year. hope this helps

About code readers: It's trivial to determine what the standard OBDII codes mean. There are very few readers that can tell you what the BMW specific codes mean. Another feature which varies is the ability to display and/or record real time data.

The 'best' solution would be the actual BMW software, but getting it running can be a challenge or even impossible, depending on your computer.
