Exhaust emissions light

I don't know Andy, the engine in mine seems to tick over very smoothly, a moment or two's slight wobble starting from cold, but after a minute or so seems really smooth. Maybe they are all hyper-protective?

Same! Mines always on and still pulls like a train!!
 
I agree with Andy, when my light came on there was no effect on the engine at all, still performed as normal.
 
Personally I still think the emissions light symptom on a 2.0 is something petrol related; might be pure coincidence but the one sainsbury's fill up and I get the light, all the others branded i.e. Shell, BP and I haven't had anything since.
Tbh it's not a major issue since getting the code reader, the £130 + whatever else BMW wanted to sort the problem was.
They must really hate the internet/EBay... :roll:

I think the D900 coder reader at £30 is the best bit of kit a Z4 owner can buy. No wonder 'Beat the Garage' sell a lot of them! :wink:
 
I have had my 58 reg Z4 for 3 weeks and love it, I then filled up at Tesco for the first time and the engine light came on as I fulled away, so I think its fuel related as well, question is how do I go about getting rid of the light, do I just wait till I use the fuel and top up else where or has it got to be looked at and cancelled?

Buy a D900 OBDII Code Reader from eBay, only £30 including postage, and then you can read and clear the code yourself. :wink:

Comes with a disc, but it's very easy to use. You plug it in, turn the ignition on, select BMW from the list of cars and hey presto read the code and then erase it. I have the instructions as a PDF which I could send you.
 
I have just connected the code machine to the car and it came up with PO420 which is to do with the cat. I then cancelled the code and will drive it around to see if it comes on again. Still think its down to Tesco fuel.

Same code that I've had but not recently. It passed it's MOT with no problem on emissions.

Seems that the emissions light triggers a lot on the 2.0 litre models. I think the light must be very sensitive as often there is no loss of power or performance.
