Exhaust emissions light and vibrating

Hi guys

I started my coupe up yesterday and drove 30 metres down the road and got the exhaust emission light and a lot of shaking/vibrating, it was revving quite rough also. Bought it back home, planning to take it to the garage this weekend but just wanted to get any advice on what it may be? If it was just the oxygen sensor would it lead to all the shaking and hesitation with the revs. The petrol was at 1/8th. In the last 2 months or so I've heard a very faint high pitched sound while driving doesn't seem to change regardless of what I do and half the time I wonder if its even there, not sure if it could be linked

Not sure I would be driving that any where. If you have home recovery you could get therm to drop it at the garage for you. Hopefully just a coil pack though.
 
+1 on a coil pack. an engine will start and idle on 5 cylinders just about, but it'll not make much power and will vibrate a lot. thankfully its a relatively straightforward fix :driving:
 
+2 on coil pack. Had exactly the same symptoms. 6 new packs and plugs for £150 and all is still well two years later. I hope this works for you too? :thumbsup:
 
Small word of advice, make sure the caps on all coil packs are securely fitted as this can also cause the same symptoms, especially with newer coil packs that don't make that satisfying click when fitted.
 
Hi Guys

Was just one of the ignition coils thankyou for your advice. I just replaced that one not sure if it might be a good idea to replace all. Was a simple DIY so might just wait

Having the exact same problem as we speak. Going to take it into BMW Sytner for a diagnostic just to be sure.
