Exhaust being fitted this week...

Erm.. yeah that would be about right I think... Don't forget though that it was otherwise pretty deadly quiet around there (except for the plane going overhead in the clip where i start the car).

It does perhaps sound louder than it is, in the video.... although - my mates said they could hear me when I left last night and accelerated up a dual carriageway about half a mile from their house. LOL

Carl, I said the exact same thing to a mate of mine last night. I wondered how loud it is too, but don't have a meter. How much are they for a cheapish handheld? I thought they were a good £60 or so, which is probably a bit much just to see how loud my exhaust is. ALthough I suppose I could use it to set up my home cinema too.. lol

I think I paid £30 for mine from Maplins.

That's all sixspeed should pay, 'cos he will probably destroy it if he holds it too close to that exhaust

118db for your TVR, a quick google shows tht a jumbo taking off is only 110 so it must have been crazily loud. Have you got any hearing problems now?

£30 isn't bad. I might go take a look - my work is next to a Maplin store, so i'll have a wander in there on Monday.

I did specify that it had to be able to be taken on track - it *should* come in under 98dB, and certainly the exhaust is very quiet when holding revs. It's only loud when you put your foot down, so you could probably pass a noise test with it if you were careful. I certainly hope so anyway, as i'm off to the 'Ring on Thursday, and they have a 98dB limit there!

What?

Jumbo taking off will be 110dB from a distance of 50m or so. Not 1m. It was the pops and bangs that made the reading so high.

Ah yes it wouldn't be from 1m away, doh

I did find something that reckons that regular exposure to things over 100db for periods of 1min or greater can cause permanent damage to hearing, I work in construction and the guys out on site have very strict time limits for working with noisy equipment (even with defenders/ear plugs).

It is hard to tell from the vid, but it does seem LOUD! Will have to wait for the meter readings on Monday

Is that a cat back system or did you have the cats changed as well?
That sounds awesome, but perhaps a bit loud if you don't want to draw attention to yourself.

It says at the start of the video: Gruppe M intake and H&S cat back system.

Where did you get the Gruppe M intake from? I'm sticking all this stuff on my shopping list and I don't even have the car yet...

I think my neighbours would be surprised if I didn't get the exhaust. My last two cars were the TVR (118dB after removing the cats, 108dB before) and a Subaru Impreza with a 4.5" H&S exhaust.

sixspeed, love the number plate  The exhaust sounds fantastic and as the M is my second car it is something I would def do in the near future.

What was the cost if you don't mind saying???

OMFG! Andy, that sounds superb mate, you must be well chuffed.

Coming towards you with that GruppeM sounds so CSL like then when it flies past you get a lovely change in noise and the exhaust just takes over, love it!!! Great sound.

I'm over the moon! It went down well at the Evotechnik meet I went to today as well :D

Got some photos in the light - as you can see, it looks pretty standard. The pipes extend slightly further from the bumper though, and they're also a few mm larger by the looks of it (not measured though).

Very nice, clean look! The can's are pretty tiny too (compared with stock).

Have you done any performance testing yet? I'm curious to see if there are any significant gains.

Unfortunately not. I didn't do any 0-60 or dyno runs before the exhaust was fitted, so have nothing to compare it back to the standard system either.

I will probably get it on the next dyno day that's organised by one of the clubs/forums I'm on, just to see what it is running - but without taking the standard sytem with me and swapping it over on the day, I won't really get a good idea of whether there's much of an increase from the exhaust alone.

I'd hope that it's unlocked a few more BHP though - maybe +10 or +15, with the combination of the Gruppe filter as well?

Eh... doesn't matter. The kik-azz sound makes up for everything else that "might" be lacking. Sometimes it's all about the presentation.

I've added a video clip we took from inside the car - windows down. Speeds were around 50-70mph, but with hard acceleration....

Don't try to see anything, because you can't .. lol. But it does give you an idea of the sound from inside....

Price was £800 +VAT, which is about comparible with the Supersprint systems....

That seems quite reasonable to me. Very tempting indeed.
