Exhaust bass sound

Hi guys,

Quick question from a relative novice:

When starting my zed, it's pretty quiet.

Apart from when it's been sat cold for a while, when It does the usual 1k revving while warming up. I guess this is the car circulating oil around the engine? Right?

This includes the exhaust which is quiet on start up.

But when the engine's upto running temp the exhaust makes a really bassy noise. Only noticeable at low speeds.

It sounds awesome, I love it. But when parking (At low revs) after a good workout it's pretty deep.

No rattling, just deep bass when revved.

Is this normal? And does everyone else notice it when the car is warm?

I'm hoping it's just the zed's sporting setup, as my golf gti didn't sound anywhere near as bassy.

Thanks

The exhausts on these do get louder and deeper after a run. Also the high-revving from cold is an emissions thing - the car running rich to get the cat's up to temperature as they have to be operational within a set time period to meet the Euro emissions requirements.

Haven't noticed it so much on my own car, but when parked up with other Z's I notice the sound (sounds great).

Only think I notice with mine when cold is the gearbox is a bit notchy and the engine's a bit noisier. That and I notice I feel a mental block to taking it over about 3k RPM just when I'm itching to just plant it in 2nd and fight the tail end sliding as the speedo needle shoots up at an alarming rate...

I do love my Z :)

If I have a "really" good run then reving the car at the lights say ever so slightly moves the car side to side! :driving:

The e34 M5 has such a lumpy idle that it does that all the time 8)

Hi,

I thought the Z4 exhaust had a nice note, but it really doesn't show off the straight 6 that well. I've ordered a Remus system (cat back), which will provide a nice deep note. Will post a vid on here when installed in a couple of weeks.

Up to now most of the noise I hear from my 3.0 is from the engine and not the exhaust it seems :P

the higher revs when cold is just the auto choke mate, thats normal on all cars.

we don't have the pull out levers anymore. :P
