ex MR2 owners

Erm no...... as the past owner of a MR2 MK3 that is two completely different kettle of fish. The Honda is completely mental !
 
Funny enough my brother is down and drive the z for the first time, just jumped out and compared it to a better quality, faster and tighter version of his mk3 mr2 he had a few years ago (he's had a 350z and new slk since.. )

I think the zed is a natural progression from an MR2, but then the zed cost £10k more when new compared to the MR2 so direct conparisons are a tad unfair. Also, I still maintain the MK3 will outcorner a zed.
 
Well that was his verdict ... A step up in every way but comparable , he's 24 but has had a good portfolio already of cars like this.

I'm not sure on the handling, I heard they're a bit skittish off the brother and the z more predictable. But I didn't ever rag it, just drove it so I guess can't add my own opinion. Great cars though , once the manifold gets replaced :wink:

Edit .... Speed etc I'm not comparing here as that's obvious and not comparable , just the feel of the car on normal country roads

In this case the cornering ability of the Mr2 is not in question as its a mid engine and is very sharp.

But the engines are totally different. I can drive it hard in the corner, brake hard, and exit fast with the Z4, something not possible with the Mr2.

Have driven the latter version and its vgood but you cant compare it with a 3.0i. :D

With a 2.0i even a truck will probably go faster :rofl:

Checking up on my old thread... & my love of the MR2 will never die. Certainly a very agile car, though you may remember I had a play with a MK3 round Chobham test track 6-8 weeks back to the extent I had my son complaining (again) on finding its adhesion limits. Keeping your foot on the throttle when the back goes light & starts sideways drifting isn't something I'd like to do too often on a public road but found my Zed could stay in shape for longer on those twisties, even if it was a steer from the rear.
 
Here's my old baby, loved it while I had it but dont think I could go back to one now.

 
..... Catching up again on this - the standard 96 MR2 Mk 2 Rev 3 produced 170 bhp and I found the gearing very balanced and able to get that down onto the road very easily. (I think I have a bit of an issue with the Zed gearing but time will tell). This places the MR2 between the Zed's 2.0 and 2.5l engine options.

I was able to push it hard in the dry and handling was predictable with the lump behind you it never stepped out - I had a few hairy moments though on damp surfaces and in the wet if you tried this it snapped out and you had to be very quick indeed to have a chance to correct.

The BEAMS engine was Jap market only but very desirable with 200 BHP

Having now owned two MR2s a 2.0 Zed roadster and now the Coupe they were all special in their own way....... Give me a big garrage and ill have them all thanks ( and about 20 others !)
