Firstly, many thanks for all your replies - it really helps to get direct feedback from those who own and drive an M regularly (kudos to inkey$ for what is one of the most emotive posts about M ownership). I missed out on the car I had lined up so need to begin waiting again for the right colour, spec, mileage etc. You've definitely convinced me that this should be my next upgrade...

Think i'd get banned if i swapped my Coupe for an M Coupe.

The M is just such an excellent raw driving machine & it really rewards when you grab it by the scruff of the neck

I also agree with others that for the money I don't think anything comes close, it's turned into a serious performance bargain & just listening to it start up gives you a buzz.
