Evri Scam

I can't believe I nearly fell for this one

I'm expecting a parcel from China which I've been tracking and which landed in the Country over a week ago (now at London customs) but then the tracking stopped. I know the carrier from then on is Evri.

I received a text message on Friday purporting to be from Evri saying they have a parcel for me but its incorrectly addressed and could I click on the link to the Evri website and enter the correct delivery address. Naturally I thought it's the parcel I'm expecting.

Clicked the link which took me to the Evri site, looked really cosha and entered my address details which then took me to a payment page to enter credit card etc details.

Alarm bells then starting ringing and the fee they wanted was for 21 pence  obviously didn't proceed. It's not the 21 pence they were after but the card and personal details.

I thought I would call the number used to text the message and it took me to the Philippines

Think it was just pure coincidence that it was Evri.

Narrow escape :)

I get these barstewards pestering me all the time. Let’s hope it’s a coincidence and not that Evri is giving out parcel details.

I very rarely get scam texts, probably why I nearly fell for it. I would like to know where they got my phone number from and interestingly being Evri I wonder if the company used to ship the parcel from China are passed my details like my phone number which I supplied to the ordering company and they then passed my number onto scammers in another Country :?

Probably was a coincidence but because you responded, you will get them more often as they know you/ your number exist.

I got emails supposedly from Fedex saying similar for a week or so. I was waiting for a parcel from Vietnam, strangely.
Maybe someone, somewhere IS intercepting the tracking details? If you gave a phone number on the order, that will be on the details.

I tend to put in a false phone number if the delivery insists on it.

Yes I supplied my phone number on the item I'd ordered. I imagine the number will be printed with my address on the delivery label as it tends be on international deliveries so anyone could note the number when in transit.

Don't think I'll bother in future especially ordering from the likes of China.

They're probably watching me this minute through my Alexa camera

Funnily enough my doorbell camera is from China along with the App so they already know my every movement :o

I wouldn't expect anyone physically note labels TBH. All the details will on the tracking information, so I would imagine quite easy to just skim the data from there. I don't know anything about these sort of things, but would guess that the vast majority of scammers are just IT savvy and do everything from a PC (in their bedrooms in their Mum's house).

I heard that mobile phone thefts are on the rise, not because they want the phones, but because they want all the personal info and especially mobile banking/ payment details on them. Apparently it is extremely easy to bypass any security on a phone if you know what you are doing.

These people are obviously very talented with technology; it's a shame they don't put that talent to better use.

I've got encryption on my mobile but always worry when doing finance stuff but like you say if your phone finds its way into someone else's hands there's always someone out there who can outwit these things

Problem is you can't function without the Internet, my local high street banks and building are slowly disappearing :(

Yes the banks want everything to be done online so they can save money on branches (cos they're really poor you know), but seem to be two steps behind the scammers who are constantly thinking of new ways to steal our money.

My bank shut our branch a few weeks ago; nearest one now is 20 miles away. That's Barclays too, not exactly on the bread line those bstards.
