Every time I fix my car I break it a bit more!

Hi all.

Bit of background: owned my car for nearly 3 years and during that time have replaced various bits. Last weekend I changed both front wishbones and yesterday I changed the tie rods. I haven’t yet had the tracking etc done but plan too. Did the usual drive up and down the local road and get the 3 lights of death pop up!

Got inpa working and clear all the old codes (thinking this is a result of the tracking not being done). Another trip up and down the road popped them back on, so cleared them again. Bit I have a flashing tire indicator! (I haven’t driven since and will wait til the tracking).

Some codes that were showing:

So, how do I fix it (apart from getting a garage to sort it which I can afford)?

Have you tried lock-to-lock on your steering wheel a couple of times & a little drive - I seem to remember they can get out of sync & this can cure it

I did this after I’d finished replacing them as greased the steering rack whilst there as it groans! Tie rods were rusty and desperately needed changing but came reasonably easy.

Steering angle sensor. You can't fix that by just clearing codes. It needs done manually

More information on this thread, one suggestion is to clean the sensors (if you haven't already tried)

Thanks I’ll try this first!

I can't remember the setting in inpa but it's a particular process

If your steering wheel is not centered after changing the track rod ends this can cause this issue. If this is the case once you have the tracking Set it will clear.

It says steering angle sensor also the pressure sensor on the abs module. Seems odd it just popped up all of a sudden.. Maybe needs an alignment

Also try to unpluging the connector at the antilock brake module. After reconnecting reset codes again with INPA. Sometimes its due to dirty contacts.

My son's E85 recently had the exact same problem. The above us what fixed the problem.

This is due to steering angle sensor calibration after changing tierods. Needs resetting in INPA.
