Ever misfueled a car?

Got a phone call from the wife on her way to work telling me she had just filled up her Diesel Yaris with unleaded
Luckily she had only driven half a mile before she, for some unknown reason, realised what she had done.
Anyway I gave her the Zed and waited for the RAC who towed me to my local garage where it was drained and subsequently topped up with Diesel with no apparent damage. (apart from a £50 bill)

Just wondering if anyone else on here has ever done it as the recovery services deal with 400 of these incidents a day.

Guilty, Topped up my wifes peugot HDI from quarter tank to full with unleaded, Amazingly it got about 20 miles before it conked out. Your wife is a bit brighter than me coz even after it conked out It took me a while to figure out what the problem was.

£250 to put it right

no but I know someone who put petrol in their diesel discovery....

2k worth of damage, luckily for him his insurance company paid for it.

I did it with my 525D the first night i had it, I didnt start the car and had it towed to a garage who drained it and charged me £200 for the call out. I used to think i would never make such a mistake, but all you need is a busy day at work and lack of sleep. Easy done.

You can't put diesel in a modern petrol car as the nozzle won't even fit, but I know of 4 people who have put petrol in their diesel cars over the last 5 years at work.

They all used BP as company dictates and BP used to use crap colour schemes that didn't help especially if you used the 'Super' variety.

disadvantage of owning 2 cars, 1 a diesl and 1 a petrol, i filled 1/4 tank of petrol into a diesel

didn't cost me anything, i just topped rest with diesel and it was ok, ran a bit rough but no damage

in the old days, it was common to add a bit of petrol into a diesel tank in the winter, prevented the diesel from freezing

Not (yet), but I do have 3 different fuel types to deal with (Diesel, unleaded and super unleaded).

X5 does have a label "diesel" on the filler cap though :)

I have one diesel car and one petrol car,
I look at the colour of the hoses, diesel is a black hose and petrol is green,
I use this method and also look at the label on the handle, so far I have never had a problem.
I also don't get into the passenger seat when I want to drive off :D

Did it in a colleagues Golf TDi a few years ago.

Managed to get from Blackpool to Manchester before it died. and it took me 15 mins to figure out what i'd done.

Didn't kill it surprisingly! cost about £150 to drain. not out of my pocket thank god.

what a div.
