Ever feel on show?

I'll echo the majority of forumites in this thread and say that you might feel a little on show at first. That will quickly melt away though once you feel more confident in your own car and you realise that you're having much more fun than anyone else in their claustrophobic machines!
 
I am going to have to stop wearing a duvet jacket a bobble hat and a car rug over my knees as I want to smarten up my act to honour the dignity of convertible owners everywhere.

Or maybe I should continue not caring?

Isnt there some statistic that the UK has more convertibles than anywhere in Europe?
Well anyway as soon as summer comes around you'll notice that you kind of blend in and the self conscience thing fades a touch. Everyone from mums in drop-top meganes to wide boys in M3's is at it.

I wont lie though after 5 years of owning soft tops im still aware of how loud my music is or who's looking at me, mostly when stopping. Wear sunglasses and keep moving 8)

Well the Zed and this account is owned by my better half Rach. It doesn't seem to bother her being in traffic with music blaring out as she's now on her fifth one.I though as a bloke am self concious in a convertible with the top down (probably stems from the trauma of taking a mate out for a ride in the Spitfire then getting back only for the storeman to greet us with 'hello ladies had fun'.....never again).

When we were looking for a replacement for the S2000 I don't think there was ever any doubt in Rach's mind that it was going to be a convertible
 
The self-consciousness must be a female thing. I've had a couple of lady passengers quite unsure about being so "visible" at the beginning of their first ride in the Zed - but of course by the end they're used to it and loving it ;)

My younger (by 3 years) brother often asks me if he can take the Zed for a drive just so he can cruise around with the top down and "look rich" (in his words) :roll:
For the record the answer is always "No" :D
 
It amuses me when people sometimes stare vacantly at you while waiting at lights. Somehow they think you are part of the car, not an actual person sitting a couple of feet away. I tend to say hello and possibly nice day. The surprise! A car spoke to them. They have to re-evaluate, it lives! A real person is actually sitting in that car. Oops, better hurry off.

'I like your shoes' completely nonpluses them

Ok, have had the car three weeks now so thought id post a little update. I'm happy to say I'm not self-conscious at all! I do tend to turn the stereo down when I pull up next to people, but that's mostly cause I have it blasting. What I do feel is a great sense of pride :)

Now my husband is another story! He won't even let me drop the top in a busy place!
 
Nice one Cassie. Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you with the hubby. He'll convert, eventually... :)

I'm half deaf so stereo is loud anyway so people often look around to see who's making the noise. :)
Also, the 'sports' exhaust on the 'M' is very loud and bassy plus I have a childish (my wife says!) habit of dropping a gear and flooring it whenever I drive under a bridge or pass between tall buildings :D
So you have to get used to the attention although I've never had any abuse when I've been in the car even in Liverpool!
 
You will love it.it's wot girl's are about. just lower your top down a little and then see how you get on.bet you go home feeling great. :rofl: :thumbsup:
 
I always felt a bit of a show off with the roof down, I never felt comfortable with it and the staring whilst sat at traffic lights was just too weird for me.

i do love it personally, i cant lie, i love the attention. i'm a bit shy in person, but none of that matters when i'm driving :D

OMG I'm exactly the same! In my spare time Im a musician and LOVE getting up on stage, even though it scares the crap out of me!
