Ever decreasing Z4M prices

9000 as a second car in london? that must have been some 4am driving!

I lived in London (zone 1 and 2) for just under 6 years

I had a car for 3 of those years and can honesty say the only driving pleasure experienced during this time was getting onto the A1 heading north for weekends away (although at a slow pace)

I wouldn't want to put myself or the car through that torment or annoyance again - well unless heavily medicated!

the idea is when ive done my 60 hour week i can enjoy the weekend! im a big fan of the outdoor activities so a car is a requirement to get to the likes of the brecons and lakes! the only opportunity i have for a car is the weekend making a zed ideal :D

I live in Greater London to be more precise and can directly get on the M3, M4 and M40. I have a lot of friends in far fetched places and often leave town when I can. Anyone that knows me knows that I am always travelling somewhere for something. I NEVER use the Zed to go anywhere near Central London, that's what public transport or the Polo is for.

Are they still friends after they have heard your singing / voice butchering? :D

I think the OP was implying that the general public was only comparing Autotrader prices for the actual value of the cars, seems to not quite tally up with the fact like you mentioned that most of the peaches are indeed being bought by members or enthusiasts on here that will pay top price for decent cars.

Proves again that spec and condition do matter, and worn seat bolsters and scuffed wheels will put people off despite it only costing x to fix.

Not sure you can base an objective point of view based on a handful of members views with a vested interest in believing their cars are worth more than it is, that's hardly proof. The wider market has taken a big hit, this effects all the cars on sale.
Also you're making assumptions about cars you haven't viewed, how do you know the condition is any lesser than a supposed 'good un'
The best you can hope for is an easier sale of a well looked after car, if you're trying to compare dealers prices and aligning that to private sales values, that's where the extra few k is going.
My csl was in superb condition and priced at the middle to lower end of the scale. The advert was well constructed and detailed, didn't matter mine was a good car, I couldn't get anybody to even view the car, never mind buy it. Not until I dropped the price.

Plenty of people reading this will have tried to sell, but don't seem to be contributing, Inkey$ or anyone else who's actually been through the process.

I am basing the condition on photographs of those that did not sell. The example one used was a model with scuffed wheels / seats and nobody was interested. A week later, KevShore's comes up for sale and everyone jumps on that like a dog on heat.

I can guarantee you that if another one like that pops up which ticks all the boxes of one owner, low mileage, excellent condition and all the toys - it will be bought quickly at a good price.

I have not seen the CSL you tried to sell, nor any pictures so can not judge the condition or number of owners. As you bought it after the production ended it will have been second hand, and I know that you most likely you would have tracked the car - which would put potential buyers off as well. If I remember correctly (apologies if that was not you), you also sold some M seats some time back which seemed to me in less than good condition which you probably thought were ok, so perhaps our definitions of condition levels might not be the same.

I sort of keep my statement 'its all about LOW miles' and retract it as well. Condition plays a big part!

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/bmw-z-series-z4-m-roadster-2007/915881

This was for sale when i was looking back in May. It was 15k and had about 16000 on the clock at the time. Described as A1 condition etc.

I went and had a look and it was far from, front bumper 'fang' scraped, scratch on the bootlid that would need the whole lid respraying, wheels needed refurbing, interior plastics worn, seats had the 'rub wear' from being far back and touching the rollover hoops. Needed new rear tyres also. All in just 'used' without much concern or care. Nice chap though just not an enthusiast whatsoever.

So, it looks like it has just sold 6 months later for around 13k according to the ad.

If it was mint then it would give you the impression the M's value is decreasing quite depressingly. But the true story is that it needed 1.5k's worth of work to be 'as described'

The problem is punters see a z4m with 19k on the clock described as immaculate for 13.5k in the classifieds and think this is representative of a going rate.

^^^The truth. I hate looking for a used car, I really do. The amount of 'mint' rotters I went to view was so depressing - even after asking for a detailed condition report on the phone!

Condition is king. Low mileage means nothing in the wrong hands...

Amen

Much rather have 100k on a car well looked after than 30k on a neglected one .
I would always buy on condition & history with mileage a secondary issue within reason

I never saw Kev's car, so can't comment
I started this thread because I observed Z4MC's had dropped a lot compared to the rest of the market of a similar performance car(997), not to say that good ones are worth a pittance. I hope this hasn't been lost in the numerous pages.
Regarding my CSL and others for sale, most CSL's will not be one owner cars and I'm pretty sure that's quite rare given the car is coming up to 10yrs old, so I wouldn't think that's a no-no for most CSL's buyers too, maybe to you, the more obvious reason is that sellers see prices at dealers and tries to sell their the same price, usually this ends with the car being withdrawn or the price being reduced. The CSL was designed to be tracked and for me the odd track day isn't an issue, same goes for a lot the of CSL register members too. As dreamer says one owner or ten isn't the issue it's condition and service history, everything else is just a buyers perspective of what's important to him/her.
I've seen loads of other CSL's since I purchased mine and it was the best of the bunch in terms of condition, even compared to low mileage stuff, but it didn't matter one bit, no one even came to see it when it was fairly priced and struggle to see how it would be any different when selling something like the Z4M coupe, which I also tried to sell privately at a fair price without any luck, and my Z4MC was really stunning.
Have you actually tried to sell your Z4M, because it's not what you think regardless of condition/ miles
Barking up the wrong tree with the seat sale, never sold anything like that. Did sell an RPI scoop once and I can assure you it was excellent :P

Sorry - must have been someone else with those seats (fastlad or so then ...).

Not tried to sell my Z4M, but sold my Z4 3.0 in about 6 hours or so for 4k more than the dealer offering. Srhutch will be buying my M when it comes up for sale :D
