Euthanasia

Euthanasia ....... I actually have first hand experience of this ...... And it was 25 years ago in Holland.

Holland has a pretty wonderful deal where every county has its own minister of justice, and it is he or she who decides which cases will be prosecuted or not ..... Which is why for example drugs appear to be legal in places like Amsterdam when in fact they are against the law.

My mother in law didnt feel too good (aged 50) and popped to the local GP for a check up, came home surprised (after a few trips to the hospital) to discover that she had terminal cancer with less than a few months to live.

They gave her a whole bix of pills to take which included Heroin and Cocaine funnily enough and once she started taking them she was out of it.......

.....anyway, she soon said feck that to the drugs and decided she wanted out ........

So the day came, in her own living room, the whole family was there, so was the GP.

The minister of justice arrived, spent some time talking to every family member, then talked to her .... Then announced he had seen enough and nodded at the GP. She was given a shot and off she went.

So you see it can be done in a civilised and proper way ..... And most importantly, its been going on all over europe like that for decades .... Its not a suddenly new scandal thing ...... And nothing is suddenly going to change because of a new law ....

:D

I never used to have much of an opinion on this but just lately after having my mom going into a nursing home and seeing some of the poor souls in there, its made me wonder.
We don't let animals suffer if they are in pain or terminally ill thinking it kind to 'put them out of their misery' yet we let our fellow humans suffer.
There definitely is grey areas. How can you be sure someone is in their right mind to make that decision or not been put under pressure by family members?
Its a tough one but I do think that if it is proven that a decision to end your life has been taken under no duress and that the person is completely lucid and there is sufficient reason then I think it should be allowed.

Theres a big difference between ending someone's life because they want it ...... And ending someone's life because you think it's the right thing to do .....

A person should be able to make his own decisions .....
When its someone else there needs to be a proper set of correct procedures
