Eurotour 2015 --- 27/04/2015-03/05/2015

Hope you have a great cruise Kris, shame that after all your effort to organise such a fabulous looking week it didn't work out.
Would have been with you as you know but now have to fly out to Spain. Was looking forward to your cruise too.

I think there would be a lot more but for the long trip to the south coast of the UK or fairly expensive ferry crossing from the North East of the country.

Top marks for trying tho.

The other Zed will be a chipped 35is so I will have to push the 2.2i to its very limits, lol.
Anyway, next time we organise this, it will be just a weekend, being 2 or 3 days.

Actually, we might do a weekend this year in Normandy...

The picture was taken on the parking lot across the Nürbürgring just before we drove over the "Hohe Acht" or public part of the Nürbürgring where I scared a 35is

I thought so, just a mile or so up from Hohe Acht

I have a pic somewhere of my car parked in almost exactly the same spot.

I regularly visit Montabaur and that's not far away from the ring is it ?
Swmbo has always objected to me having a drive around the ring but I could go and look?

Schwarzwaldhochstrasse or B500... around minute 8:38 you can hear my delight when I come around the bend... :D

Nice video. Certainly getting me excited as I'm off on a very similar tour to this trip in about 5 weeks.

The R500 is in our itinerary, along with the Andermatt Loop in the Swiss alps. Heading down to Monaco - Mont Ventoux, Route Napoleon etc. And highlight of the trip is a trackday at Imola! Can't wait!

Would love to hear some more from you guys now you're back and how the trip went. No doubt there are plenty of photos and stories to tell!

I'm not much of a storyteller, but I'll give it a go... :-)

First things first: here is the full picture album!

Day 1: small disaster...

As I hadn't practised with the Garmin before to upload the tracks and all, I had a lot of trouble getting the hang of it. I kinda counted on the other guys who also had a Garmin, that they would have more experience. Turns out that arriving at the start location, we end up with 4 Garmins and no-one really knowing how they work, lol... Anyway, after some fondeling (or however you write that) we managed to get the route on the Garmins properly... At least that's what we thought. Not all Garmins have the option to turn off the recalculation mode so we ended up with three different routes. Luckily we all had the same waypoints which were what we wanted to visit. But along the way in the morning we stopped a lot as we didn't understand why the Garmins where so different even with the same settings.

So we lost a lot of time in the morning. So we decided to take the highway for a bit, to win some time. Bad idea, we got lost and it took us half an hour longer than foreseen. On top of that, the other Zed suddenly decided he dind't want to drive along the highway anymore and just left without telling anyone. So we had to stop and wait to find out after calling them that they were already halfway there. Although we traveled along some nice routes, we were all tired when we arrived at the hotel at 20.00 ... Nonetheless, as we were in Durbuy, we chose a nice restaurant and had a great dinner together, so the day ended well.

Day 2: Lessons learned

the next morning we had breakfast all together and we were actually in a pretty good mood. We agreed not to ditch eachother along the way anymore, not to divert from the planned route and to start of early enough. That day we really enjoyed the trip, nothing but smiling faces! We drove up from Durbuy to the Bütgenbach lakes along nothing but small curvy roads with really nice weather.

Further along, by luck, we arrived at a nice restaurant for lunch.

At that point I was getting excited as the next part was the "hohe acht" from the Nürbürgring. When we arrived there, I passed the 35is and gave it all the 2.2i could take. It took a few minutes at the end of the road before the 35is arrived :D

During the last part of the drive that day we drove along the Moselle, which was a nice wide and easy road, ideal when you're getting tired and a really beautiful area too. In Bernkastel-Kues the rest of the company seemed to be too tired to head into town to look for a nice restaurant, so they stayed at their hotels (we weren't always in the same hotel) and we (my wide and I) went into the old town center for a nice meal.

Day 3: Best day ever!

The next morning we were all smiling thinking back at the day before, which was really a great trip. The third day would be more or less the same as the second day, except that it would and with the B500 for which I was really curious to see. Again, the whole day nothing but small curvy roads, but this time we had a little practise the day before so we went a lot faster through the sharp turns. I couldn't stop smiling at times.

On the B500, as you could hear in the video, I sometimes giggled when coming around the bend to see a perfect road.
