European Road Trip '08 (Lots of pics)

Wow great pics and story. I can't believe you bumped into these two, I suppose the test drivers get fed up of people asking questions all the time. You will be one of the first on here to see the new Z4 in the flesh (even if it was all covered up).

How did it look in comparison to your current car ie. dimensions, etc - is it roughly the same size, not gone up a class, or half a class?

I know, we were just sat at the service station minding our own business eating our lunch when these two pulled in....I said to Kerstin right back in a minute just got to take some pics of these and off I ran like a little boy in a sweet shop!! Overall they are a pretty similar size though maybe a touch longer although it's difficult to tell, especially with all the plastic cladding. In hindsight I wish I'd driven down and parked up next to them to take some snaps of the current and future generation side by side!

As for the motorbike, sidecar and 4 passengers, yep it went round! It had to be seen to be believed!

Cheers for the all the comments, I thought you appreciate the write up!

Cheers

Paul

Great pics  have had a couple of trips over to Le Mans this year but need to do something like this would be superb.

Whats this looks a bit Porsche some sort of test car ?

I believe it's a proto-type of the Porsche Panamera being test, interestingly there was also a proto-type four door Aston Martin lapping the ring at the same time...

Pauly_G: looks like a great trip, glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully my trip to the 'ring at the end of Sept will be as good
Gotta ask: what camera do you have - those are some ace photos. I'm looking at getting hold of my first SLR for my trip - wonder if that's what you're using.

Cheers Screamer!

Hope you have a good trip to the ring.

All the photos were taken with a Canon Powershot G7, which is fine for scenery etc, but not great for fast moving objects - the photos from the 'ring aren't that good but they trigger the happy memories!

I have literally, today, just purchased a Canon EOS 40D, there are some good deals around, especially since the EOS 50D was annouced a few days ago.

Cheers

Thanks Paul - funnily enough, the 40d is exactly what i'm looking at, too! If you don't mind me being cheeky, how much have you paid and for what package? I've seen one with the 18-55 IS lens for £600 (after cashback)... My dilema is whether to stretch to the 40d, or settle for the 450d, which can be had, with the same lens, for around £430 after cashback (weirdly, almost anywhere - even Currys and Jessops are competitive on it! I suspect price fixing  )... The arrival of the 50d and Nikon's D90 haven't helped matters either, although I can't see them getting into the £600 bracket for a while yet and i'm not sure I want to go much higher.

I have recently bought a NIKON D60 and have been very pleased with the results!
My first road trip with it is here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6286
