Euro Trip

Hi

I'm not really organising this, but if anyone fancies a run down south from Scotland in August, feel free to join me. Im starting a rally in Essex heading for Paris, Monacco, Lake Garda, St Anton, Random places in Germany and back to the UK. Taking in a few of the decent mountain passes like Stelvio. Also will be passing Belgium on the way back just in time for the GP (i think).

Anyone is free to join for any part of the run but as I say, it's just me and a couple of mates in an M3 and an SLK 55 and other than a rough route, were not planning any kind of event.

Just thought I would see if theres any interest now and maybe get some finer details nearer the time.

In terms of hotels etc, it's all down to each individual to arrange. I might camp if the weather is good, which it obviously will be :D (im just saying that, in reality i hate camping)

Actually, if anyone has done a trip like this in the past, have you got any route ideas of unmissable places of interest? Our route is still at the review stage.

If nearby, go have a look at Berchesgarten, Hitlers gaff in the mountains.

Incredible place, incredible views, fascinating history.

The route napoleon from Grasse to Sisteron, a road not to be missed.

Route back sounds ideal for a visit to the Eifel region and the Nurburgring.

i will be out there from 4th August for 2 weeks, i will watch out for you

Don't go near the coastal routes on the French Riviera during August - the whole of France heads down here on holiday. :o
One day last year it took an hour to get from the motorway exit 57 into Monaco - it's only 6 miles. :x

I was thinking of doing Cannes, Nice and Monoco, will these be a no go area?

Do it if you want but be prepared for traffic jams - "une blockage"

We rent a gite just outside Nice and sometimes take the train to Monaco or Cannes.
Nice is such a nice town, with a lovely old town, down by the port - much less pretentious than Cannes. 8)

If you look at the google maps you will see a route along the Bord du Mer from Nice to Antibes, Juan les Pins, then into Cannes.
There is also a route - the Bas Corniche from Nice that runs through some nice places Villefranche, Beaulieu etc. towards Monaco.
Both these routes are busy - but if you take your time, you will see much more of Riviera life, and avoid the tolls on the A8.

I have seen many people recommend the Route Napolean from Grenoble down to Nice.

If you are in that area - a much nicer road, with much less traffic is the route from Grasse up into the mountains via Gourdon with a stop for lunch at Taverna Provencal review Then along the plateau below the mountain Le Cheiron, over the Col de Vence then down through Vence which is worth a visit and on further downhill towards Nice.

This is the view from the Taverna Provencal in Gourdon, looking down into Gorge du Loup.
