Euro Trip – Nürburgring trip - Update!! Were Back

might sound a bit random....but 3 and a bit days at the ring, assuming im not gonna wanna risk smashing my car to pieces....

is it still enjoyable as a spectator....i.e if i didnt take my car on track tht much.....is there stuff to do...

i kno i kno its a dumb question, but i do want to do a eurotrip this year, and im not sure if id rather do a loop of europe for a week or so, orrr if id rather spend a few days at the ring....

thoughts guys?

Woots - I'm a big fan of the Nurburgring and this will be my 20th year of visiting the place and I'd recommend it as a top place to visit.

Here's the but, 3 and a bit days spectating could become very tedious indeed! The car park is a buzzing and interesting place as is spectating at some of the accessible viewing points, but there's only so much of this one can take. For me, half a day in the car park and a couple of hours spectating and I'm done, only you know how much will keep you entertained.

Locally, there really isn't too much to do, but there are many really nice places to visit, and some exceptionally good roads. Rings trips are often made by the group you are with.

Just my opinion.

It's only really 2 days at the ring, since we will be arriving friday night and leaving monday morning. I'm currently planning a big hoon around the mountains for the monday before we go to Cologne :driving:

I wouldn't worry about the insurance thing. I drive MUCH harder on the public road for this reason, but it's well worth getting a lap in at a steady pace just for the experience :)

arggh i dont know what to do....gonna hafta think some more
i reaaally want to do the cannonball run at some point too.....

both on my to do lists..

Upto you dude! I've done one of these trips every year for a while now. The fun is with the camaraderie along the way, a convoy of 10 cars cruising together then enjoying chatting about what happened in the evening over a Bitburger and a steak :D

It's a bit like the whole 'Le mans what race?' thing, going to the 'ring is just an excuse for an intercontinental hoon :D

I would love to go, but the Air Force will be forcing me to go to Germany soon for a class so I need to wait for that. Oh and yes I will be driving the Z4 despite me having to pay for fuel. Yes I will be at the ring (though slow, not racing). Yes I will take some vacation time and explore the roads with wild abandon!

Hi Guys

As Tom Says , we have 2 days at the ring and a big "Hoon" Planned on the Monday 8) :driving:

It’s really IMPORTANT to remember its your holiday and although it great sticking as a group, if you want to go off and do your own thing. This no problem at all its not a school day away!!!

Last year Me and Err want off exploring ect.. in the cities meeting up later just for drinks so its really your holiday your plans. If people want to hang with the group that’s awesome

Cheers Paza

This is very tempting! As Sean said in his earlier post, we've been a fair few times in various cars, and it's been great every time. I'd really recommend it, don't be intimidated by the thought of doing a lap, I'm no speedy Gonzales, but just stuck to the rules of the ring, and had a whale of a time, even overtook some other guys and earned the right to have a ring sticker on the car!

We stay in Cochem whenever we go the ring, which is perfect for a day / night trip out if you're looking for somewhere to go for a jolly. It is a bit early in the year for us, but hope you have a great trip!

Not 100%, but if your insurance excludes the ring, you'll need insurance or you'll be driving on a public road without any. IIRC this is as big a deal in Germany as it is in the UK. Also one off and you've lost a lot of money...

im assuming most ppls insurance wont cover it though, and seems like a lot of ppl dont have track insurance...
i really want to take my car on there, purely for the right to own a sticker (sad i know) but just weighing up the risks
