and then either passenger/watch for the rest of the day...hmm i ll do some research

Good man , this is what am doing not going to go mad!!... they do an awsome M5 Passanger drive with one of the professional drivers if you want a thrill! ... I find the atmosphere alone is electric!!! , also we staying at the track side hotels so chilling in the bar with beers is always on the agenda! 8)

Been doing the Ring for 10 years now and insurers are getting wiser and allowing toll roads but specifically excluding the Ring. I'm not sure who Rach's insurance is with(its her car not mine), but we checked with them in detail before we went to make sure we weren't excluded. We've seen many ouches over the years and wouldn't want to pay for one ourselves.

This photo is from 2006 when we were in the MR2, he went speeding past us from the start then we got round the next bend and he'd had an ouch!!

The S2000 gave me more concern than the Z as it was a little frisky on the back end. With all the electronics the Z has I was able to go a full minute quicker and feel more in control. You'll be fine in a car if you just keep away from them kerbs....they are enormous. Just drive within your limitations and its the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Will see you guys out there! I'm over for Easter from Thursday night in both the Z and the S4. Staying on til Wednesday as signed up for the closed track-day on the 2nd and 3rd.

Happy to give a few passenger laps. Just come over and grab me if you see me lurking around the carpark, or heading out with an empty seat!

Sounds like you guys have a good trip planned around it too!

I'm not confirming this just yet, as its not something I would normally do....but seems a waste not to, if anyone wants to passenger me in my Z and the hotel (and change my reservation from a double to twin haha) then it's something I will consider....

Costs I have worked out so far are

£88.00 Ferry
£450.00 Hotels and
£200 Petrol

The petrol is a guess but not far off.....so if anyone wants to pay £300, you have a place

Stark no problem I move your status to maybe, hotels should work out at £370-380 dpending if your sharing of course. As total trip cost so far me + passanger ferry + hotels £229 each then fuel etc etc

Sixspeed thats an awesome offer, I will certainly be looking to pick some tips up as a passanger! :D

If you want to figure costs, this is a handy little spreadsheet i knocked up after being asked about 'Ring trip costs for the umpteenth time. Should really put the logic into a web form, but its in a Google spreadsheet for now.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnRn-59OxPKodE9JdWRKMFF2TEFPVjhuTWw0eUt6OUE#gid=3

Just put the details into the first tab - and the 2nd tab displays all the costings. It's updated for the Ring lap tickets etc, and will even work out the most cost effective way of obtaining the laps you want to.

As its a shared spreadsheet, only one person can really use it at once, otherwise you're going to get some weird things happening with two people trying to change fields at the same time :P

Also, I know you guys have your tried and tested trip format, but I would consider staying in some of the family/local run B&Bs. Not only are you putting money straight into the local's pockets, but you'll save a fortune over staying at the Dorint. Most of the B&Bs work out about 80EUR a night (so 40EUR per person), which is drastically cheaper than the £260/520 you are budgeting at the moment. May be an option just for those that are struggling with costs perhaps?

That’s a great little calculation spreadsheet really useful, thanks for that sixspeed.

It’s a really good point regarding the local BB vs Dorint , we are only staying there on choice/preference it’s an expensive choice. But as a group last year decided we would do it. You could save 100 quid by going local guys and must are only down the road, Christ I found a lovely place with a triple room for 170 for 3 nights!! Reducing the cost £18.88 per person per night :o

The other two hotels are only 49 quid per night so excellent value with secure parking and wifi etc. This is not an expensive trip but does still cost a few quid. If you can get a passenger that really helps with cost.

Guys it’s not so much a Holiday in the traditional sense eg Beach, but an amazing life experience driving across Europe in convoy with the Cameras rolling is quite an experience , the excitement as the roads twist towards the ring , the main event as you arrive there the atmosphere is great and very exciting. The trip has an addition of two city stops with beautiful scenery and really finish the trip off. This year it was decided less miles more time in each place.

Chaps on tour most of all is about having a real good laugh, what sold it to me was that as everyone is filming , we all group the footage together and make a documentary style film , and watching it back puts you right back there. Seeing your “beast” on the move in tunnel runs , twisting up roads ,etc etc is awesome!

O yeah it really does not matter if you drive a 911 GT3 or Pug 206 Gti that just not important, everyone is welcome. The MX-5's kept up really well last year on so do not worry it you only have a single exhaust

Petrol Heads need only to apply :driving: 8)
