Euro Lights Switch

So, I've just arrived in country with a US Spec E86 M. Need the rear fogs to work with for the MOT obviously, so I "just" need a new switch, with the buttons. Went to the stearlership today and they quoted me almost £400!!! I know I can find them cheaper than that. Part in question:

So question is...does anyone know where I can get a deal better than that?! Junk yards, friends in the biz, whatever. I really don't want to have to pay £400 for stupid switch if I don't have to. Thanks in advance!

I presume you know you will need to get this coded to your car.

Fab Direct or somewhere like that would be a good place to start though.

Yeah, there's a guy at work that can code it, I just need the switch.

Will check there now, thanks!

I have one, do you have xenon lights? If so, then I'm happy to sell.

Andrew.

It's an ///M so will have, and no fogs either but having the button shouldn't be an issue.

What year though?

Its black so I presume facelift. I bought it a while ago to replace my grey one but never got round to fitting it.

I'll check the part number later when I get in to confirm the part.

Andrew.

Here you go: Part No. 6 965 399

I advertised it a few months back for £50 plus p&p so I'll do it for the same price if that's ok with you.

I've not fitted it so it's untested, however I don't see why it won't function as expected. Let me know if you want it.

That's a fantastic price! I don't have a local post yet, so let me ask if a coworker wouldn't mind letting me use theirs and I'll take it!!!!

Heck - I've been looking for a post facelift xenon Light Control Module (LCM) for ages - sorry I missed this !

I've been trawling breakers and all sorts !

007MCoupe - welcome to the forum and the UK - I really don't want to put a downer on this but I think you will struggle to get a UK LCM coded to a US spec car (even though most Z4s were made in the US). There are folk on the forum who know way more than me about coding so I'll let the comment if they wish. I've been getting help from 2 specialists, one who codes for a BMW main dealer here.

I may have another option for you (both) as I have another Euro Xenon LCM which we cannot seem to code to my car (as part of a xenon facelift upgrade project) because the serial numbers don't fall into the required range and I think this might be one of the issues your coding man faces too. You should also be aware of the fact that the odomenter mileage is stored within the LCM and if not dealt with properly you WILL get a red tamper dot in your odometer - which a good coding man should be able to remove but I had warned my guy of it and he said he had never seen it BUT it did appear but my swapping back and recoding to my old LCM he did manage to remove it - just be aware.

You would be very welcome to have this other LCM for no charge (well maybe the modest postage - they are not heavy items) and if it works great and I will buy this one from andrewr ( which I would like to do in any case) though totally appreciate our US friend has first call on it.

AndrewR - can I ask where did this LCM come from - UK, mainland Europe etc. ?

Hope this makes some sense. I'll PM you both too.

Jack

Why not forget all this complexity and just fit a discreet separate illuminated switch? Should be a doddle to run a wire from a fused power and add a bulb into the rear OS light unit. It is allowed to run independent of other lights so no worries on that.

That seems a logical & sensible idea with little cost or scope to go wrong !

I wanted to try the proper switch first before I wired any 'aftermarket' switches. I'm not opposed to the idea, just want the car to look OEM for my own reasons. If the coding doesn't work, then option B is drilling a new switch in. No worries :)

definitely.... make id exhaust the o.e avenue first too.... adding an aftermarket switch MUST be last resort...
