Euro Car Parts window regulator

My drivers side window has started to make lovely crunching noises with the occasional loud bang thrown in for good measure so the regulator is almost certainly on its way out :thumbsdown:

ECP list an "OE quality" for £114 after using a 25% discount code. I'll be giving Sopers a call for a price on a genuine part but has anyone on here used the ECP part? Obviously I would normally recommend original BMW parts but the quality of the genuine regulators seems to be pretty poor so the ECP part could be an improvement! It could of course be exactly the same part though in a different box.

So, any buyers?
 
A few have been buying a cable kit for a lot less.

Yeah I've spotted those when I was searching the forum for info about the regulator. People seem to be split on the ease of fitting with some having a nightmare but others having no problem at all.
 
had a regulator go, replaced with a ECP one
2 months later the other side went aswell, ECP again.

5 months on, all working fine. got a rattle on both sides in the past 2 weeks, around where the roof meets the windows. strange
 
Mine has broken too. Well, it was on its way and I forgot to tell the garage not to use the window and they did, and snapped it, so its broken now :headbang:

They said its so much effort fitting and aligning its probably one of those that's better off left to a garage. They quoted £115 to fit.

To be honest I've had the door apart to soundproof which in itself doesn't take long, but I imagine aligning the glass perfectly to not have wind noise but also not so much as to break the glass when closing the door seems like it could go smoothly (lucky) or could take many attempts. I think I'll probably pay a garage to do the work as I value the little free time I have. (And this is from someone that recently changed all suspension and mounts in an afternoon!)
 
ECP parts listed as OE quality are usaly either by the same manafactarer as the original or indeed are an original branded part that they have bought from the same source as bmw. Baring in mind that car makers only assemble parts and do not actually make then. It is most likley the 'same' part as originally fitted.
 
Just to update this.

I bought a regulator from ECP and have fitted it today. It works as it should so hopefully no more problems now, or at least until the other side fails...
 
How hard was it to fit? Reading up on fitting just the cable seems to be quite difficult for most. Is fitting an entire replacement regulator etc more simple?

Got a week off in nov so weighing up whether to order this and do myself or book into the garage that week.

The regulator itself was pretty easy. My door card had never been off before and the top clips took some brute force to remove but the most difficult part was refitting the door glass which was a bit of a pain.
 
Ok thanks. I've had the door panel off already so quite confident with that as I've got a good set of plastic tools. I have visions of me losing patience with lining the glass up.

I didn't have any problems at all with that. Just make a note of the position of the bolt under the door before you remove it as this is what gives the adjustment and refit it to the new regulator in the same position. I took a photo to remind me.

The problem I had was getting the glass in the two runners, fiddly but doable.
 
Johnny is so right about noting position of bolts etc.
Those who struggle with jobs tend in my experience to be this who dismantle quickly and try to figure it out later. Those who succeed and are quick, get it right and have no problems, tend to look, research, label, photo, etc. they also exaggerate as they never count the time if all the prep work, just the time with the spanner :)
