Ethanol

At 10%, I wouldn't expect long term effects. At higher concentrations, though, I would expect rubber parts in the fuel delivery system to deteriorate faster.

Don't blame the person who got your letters-they're flunkies sitting at a computer and they have a script. I'd hit up my SA at my dealer or find a good indie mechanic to ask.

Mine has starting and idle problems with anything but Shell V-Power with zero ethanol up here. Shell gets around the legislation up here that states an average of 5% must be dispensed from all fuel retailers by playing a numbers game with the content in the lower octanes.

You know, I wonder if it's the lower temps up that way? I can see if the ethanol draws any water and you go below freezing by much, technically it could cause a problem. We don't really get a good freeze until January, on average. So far, I haven't had any trouble with the ethanol content but I always run 92-93 octane.

Just received email from BMW. Says the M is designed to run on up to 10% ethanol. Email me and I'll send you a copy.
