Does anyone have a recommendations for a car detailing in either Essex or East London? Been meaning to get some swirlies removed for a while now and I think the time has come!

If you can go that little bit further then use the man who's the best in the business; Kelly at KDS in Gillingham.

http://www.kdskeltec.co.uk/

He's an easy walk from Gillingham Station to get you back to where you want to be until the job is done.

Lepsons are on the same industrial estate so you can get your wheels sorted, if needs be, at the same time.

Cheers Denis.....bookmarked that for future use.

F1wax.com Guy called Stuart lives up my road, always busy and has an impressive client list. And he's a nice bloke.
And he comes to you.

Thanks Stuart, I will drop your neighbour Stuart (or is it you?!) a line and make sure I mention the referral!

I hear KDS are good so we took a BMW there last year to get an estimate for a full swirlmark removal, the estimate wasn't cheap and like the cost of a respray (on a 7 year old car just collected as a BMW dealer used car) The guy there seemed a bit full of himself and went around the car with a paint depth gauge and proceeded to tell us which panels he thought might have been involved an accident. We decided not to bother in the end :headbang:

Strangely, that is the attention to detail I would want before letting anyone loose on my paint!

A simple depth gauge, attention to detail ? ...Perhaps when he is doing the fine cleaning yes, but not what I wanted to know about when I went for an estimate, I was more interested in how he was going to make it look like new, and how he was going to spend every minute and best products working on the car in the week that they proposed keeping it. It seemed to me more like their model is to have several cars in at the same time, but don't actually spend the entire time on the car, but moves between them, yet they charge as if they have worked the entire week on it.

I am sure they must be good, they must be to be still in business I guess....I am not sold that easily and not convinced on prices.

So you would prefer someone just polish away without knowing how much clear coat he had to work with first?

Doesn't matter what special potions he says he will put on the car if there isn't any depth to the clear coat. You can't polish a turd, so makes sense to check all this upfront. I wouldn't touch anyone who just sold me a visual moon on a stick.

I can hear you tutting from here on your survey PVR  The rubber under the fuel cap is now of your standard you will be pleased to know, along side the engine plastics after you shamed me a few weeks ago!

A complete respray would cost you at least £3k, probably well north of that for a top notch job - was his quote really that much ? Inkey$ got a quote from them for a bunch of stuff on his MC about years ago, and this was what he was quoted :

For full respray of boot, front end, bonnet, wings and skirts plus a silver detail package it was coming in at around £1500+vat.

... I can imagine his prices have gone up, but that didn't seem unreasonable to me.

On the accident damage, I'd be interested to know personally. I'd bet more of these cars than you think have been bent a little. And if the paint is too thin then he'd need to respray it to do any decent work surely ?

Nope, think you didn't understand what I was saying. I didn't drive an hour for a quote for an unprofessional job else I would have gone somewhere else, it seemed more like unnecessary tactics to convince me of their level of expertise and to justify the expense. Another example...There was a scratch that was not really deep (like what you could hide with a T-cut) which even though they wanted the car for a week as standard, they said would take an additional further extra expense to remove. ! LoL. Anyway, They quoted around £1200 for the work I think (Our car was bigger than a Z however).

Amazingly, after nearly 4 years on here I don't have a single facepalm image in my photobucket. I really need to sort that...

Getting my queen fully detailed by "attention to detail" in three weeks todays, its a 11 hour session where part of it is a gloss enhancement of the paintwork IE swirls and headlights, the wheels and roof will be cleaned and sealed as well...£450.
Must admit, I fail to see the logic behind this - you're going to have major engine work done and I'll be very surprised if that doesn't result in minor scratches, scuffs etc. on the paintwork.

Wouldn't it be much more sensible to delay any cosmetic work until after the mechanical work is completed?

:o :o
Why does it need this?
I thought your car was absolutely mint and had more litres of polish thrown at it than fuel.
Perry is right though, save your money and do it after your engine work.
You would be well pissed if it needed polished again.

If you want to ensure you get no marks then... Actually you'd have to never drive it at all.

To minimise them you'd do well to pay attention to threads about DI vessels - using pure water means you don't have to dry the car by hand, which is what causes most swirls. Though I bet too much polishing and waxing doesn't help either.
