What is this? Does it just mean if you're in Sport mode then it's "sticky", i.e. stays in Sport even if you switch off the ignition and on again?

How about 95 or 98 RON? I run mine exclusively on Shell V-Power (98.6 RON) and Tesco Unleaded (99 RON).

Do you know if this modification would be warranty-affecting?

ESS never does anything that would put the engine in jeopardy. It is raised to 8400 I believe.

Correct sport mode will stay in the last mode it was in on or off.

ESS does not recommend setting up the DME to run higher octane then 93 but if you wanted it I think they have a file for up to 100

According to most tuners they will tell you no. I have always had software in by 2 M3's and in my Z4m and I always told my dealer about it. I never once was ever told to not have it or that they would not do work because of it, but the topic is always up for discussion. I can tell you the first one we are doing here next week is for an employee of BMW :D
 
I think the octane thing is a difference in terminology. In the US I believe you use MON (Motor Octane Number) to measure the octane of fuel, which results in 91 or 93. In Europe we use RON (Research Octane Number), so our regular unleaded is 95 and our super is generally 97, except for V-Power which is 98.6 and Tesco which is 99.

Yeah, also BP sell 102 RON racing fuel, but it's 2.5 times the price of ordinary fuel (which is itself already ~10$/US gallon here).
 
here is a dyno of the first US car to get the software. The owner of the car is VERY happy with the way the car drives and was all smiles after he drove it for the first time :D. I asked him to post up a review and give his impressions of how the car drives now, so hopefully he will.

This is a bone stock 2008 Z4M with about 2k miles on it. This is the first and only mod on this car. The dynos were done within days of each other after the car was driven for adaptation. all the corrections were done for temp changes etc...

Very interested.... This surely isn't the best way to import to Europe... Norway is the 2nd most expensive country in Europe.

Direct, even with import tax has to be the best route no?
 
I dunno...ESS is a Norwegian company, they may not authorize their US dealers to sell to the UK...but you'd have to ask them.

I'm confused now. There shouldn't be an issue with VAT and import duty as effectively you're getting back your own ECU returned from repair. Those of us in Europe -- should we ship to Norway or the USA? What's the European price, because we don't pay in dollars?

Can they work on an exchange basis, i.e. I pay for new ECU+software, install in car, send back old ECU and get a refund? I can't be without an ECU in my car for weeks on end.
 
If I send my ECU overnight to Arizona, how long to get it back?

Like most, I can do without for a couple of days but no more.

I am really interested especially if we get a group buy price.

If you are in the UK you should ship to the Norway location. Just make sure you mark the package " repair " to avoid taxes. They cant do a exchange because they need your file from your car to start the process. They need one day to do the flash and it is on its way back to you the next. Turn around is very quick. Just make sure if you are going to order the software and you are in europe to email [email protected] for payment and to get everything setup that way when your ECU arrives they have your file waiting. As far as the exchange rate on price just email todd tell him you are doing the group buy that Roman set up and he will take care of your payment info.

If you send your ECU overnight you can get it back in 48-72hrs. One day to program out the next. Email [email protected] and tell him you are doing the Group Buy.
