ESS supercharger problems

Here's what I would do. I'd be afraid to void the warranty by replacing a part of the system that wasn't tested as part of the system.

So I'd keep the "defective" part and ask ESS if they'd be willing to extend the warranty on that part only. So if the system fails after the 2 year warranty and it's fails because of the part in question (and for that reason only), then they'd still warranty it as you brought it to their attention prior to the failure.

If ESS really believes this is only cosmetic, I can't see why they'd not agree to this. Also, I'd do this via email so I had written documentation. Doing this, not only would I feel confident that the part would hold up, but I'd know that ESS stands behind their product.

GOOD LUCK!

If it did shear off, it could make a mighty mess of other components in the engine bay. Just having the warranty for the failed part does not cover the cost of other parts that may have been damaged.

I checked with ESS on your case and you have 3 options :

1. Send back the TS assembly on ESS FedEx account, they will replace the intake component and retest the assembly and send it back to you free of charge.

2. They can send you a new intake elbow, free of charge.

3. You can have an extended warranty on the part in question. The area where the bubble is visible is over 10mm thick and very over dimensioned.

Thanx for your time MarvelPhx!

I believe I will go for the first option.

The only thing that worries me is the custom duties.

Would I have to repay for the VAT.

I have already paid it once.

It would be unreasonable to pay it second time.

I'm not sure if your system operates the same as the UK but if we mark something as " repair " then there is no customs duty.

Interesting post. I don't know what the law is over there, but over here the distance selling regulations state that you can send the unit back for refund. Could you get a refund and then purchase new kit later on? Not sure of the cost difference between sending 1 piece back vs the whole shebang?

Rom3n is correct.

If you mark the package as "return and repair", there should be no VAT or duties. It will be an in-and-out.

If and when I put this kit on, I will post a video of the car rolling, dedicated to everyone here!

Thanx for the support!

MarvelPhx, thanx for the support.

However, since I had time to go through all the manual I want to quote on a comment you made.

The chassis difference is very small and didn't require an entirely new manual.

As you know, the instructions are for the 330i.

From what I understand, I think that the main differences are regarding the intecooler and the steering bottle.

1. The intercooler has to be boilted on another position.

There is only a folder in the CD named "Z4" having 4 pics of the intercooler installed, with no text or any more info whatsoever in it.

2. Also the procedure for the steering bottle has to be ignored since there is no bottle in the Z4.

I wonder, would it be so difficult for ESS to make a few adjustments to the manual to make it Z4 specific???

I mean it wouldnt take more than a few minutes.

For me, that by itself makes me suspicious of the nature of the company.

Working for a very small company myself, I think I can understand their situation. We always have a hard time getting supplementary material up to date. The reason: people like to do what they're good at and have fun doing. My guess would be that these are a bunch of hard core car guys who are good at what they do...and none of them really feels like doing word processing if what they have gets them by :P I wouldn't worry too much.
