But just something i hope there is an easy answer too. But how does the flash for the ECU work? Obviously swapping hardware is easy. But would you need to buy the flash from ESS???
yes and its expensive. but if you get the kit really cheap or it needs refurb in some areas it still a win, also LOTs of different companies will tune it remotely, Evolve ( personally wouldnt use them for the z4 platform as they never seemed to get it quite right ) however ess wont even talk to you to offer any sort of troubleshooting if you go this route. Its definitely worth while sticking with them and their tunes are fantastic.
In that case and if they will sell you a flash it’s a no brainer!!
Having done a bit of research on ECUs recently. The ms45 (3.0 z4 ecu) is very different and harder to map and to fiddle with the tables. I believe the z4m and m3 have similar issues. I also know that for around 1300 you can get a SCS delta fully programmable ecu witch is plug and play for the z4m. There was one parked up when i dropped my z4 off Sunday.
I had a chat with Matthew Payne yesterday. It seems the pin outs are different. And the way they work is different but the way they communicate over the can bus is identical. Which is good news.
FD3S it might sound like a lot of cash. But if your saving cash on the hardware. Buying the standalone would be a really good and smart upgrade. And future proof yourself for any future upgrades.
