Hi,
When I put the car in reverse the PDC screams at me. I checked for codes and this threw up

I've cleared, but the error remains. any ideas on how to cure this? Or potential cost?

If you can swap that sensor with one of the others, if the fault moves to the new location the sensor is faulty, if the fault stays in the same place it's probably bad connections in the plugs on the loom side

ok doke. is it an easily accessible to get the PDC out? I do hope it's not a bumper off job...

It is a bumper off job, but it's pretty straightforward. The outer sensors don't even need the whole bumper taking off, just remove the side and you should have enough access. I replaced mine with a secondhand one off eBay in the same colour, and it's been fine for almost 12 months!

I used DIS software so my error was more clearly defined in the diagnostic, but I'm betting it's the sensor. A simple check is to engage reverse to activate the sensors and get someone to check whether the sensor is vibrating. If not, it's dead. That's how it works out distance.

awesome stuff, Job for next weekend. I've ordered another sensor just in case (£35 from eBay thought that was reasonable). What could have gone wrong with it do you think? Or do they have a habit of dying over time?

Normally water ingress or dirty connector occasionally fault in wiring loom from pdc controller in boot and sensors

Exactly, and not helped by 100 bar pressures washers !!! But had several older BMWs and they do fail...

Hope you get it sorted OP.

When I bought my current one I thought they didn't work as they beeped when you selected reverse! Used that in my negotiations, only to find that they do work! It seems you can code them to do that.
