Hi all,

I have the air bag light on my dash and have tried to clear the error but with no look. My error code is 9893 seat occupancy detector, open circuit passenger.
Now, I’ve looked at the topic on airbag lights so I’m going to try a few things today, but I wondered if any had had this issue recently

Cheers
Matt

No matter how many times you clear the code it will come back as long as the fault is still there, if its the occupancy sensor then that needs replacement or one of those bypass units you can get to be plugged in that will fool the brain into thinking its there and working, once in place that should clear the code, you may need to scan it and clear it with your scanner. Always disconnect the battery first and then remove and check the underseat cables and plugs for damage or dirty connections when all plugged back in then reconnect the battery and see if thats sorted the problem before spending out on parts.

Thanks colb. I’ve checked the cables and connectors and all seems ok. So, I’m going to order a new sensor from BMW tomorrow

the sensor is built into the seat as it is a mat, you either have to stripe seat down and remove leather to replace mat or get an emulator off ebay for £10-15.

I sorted it in the end.

I spoke to a guy on ebay about a bypass and in doing so and checking that I was going to get the right one, found out that someone had already fitted one. I disconnected it, refitted the mat plug and it worked - cleared my fault and it's been fine for the last week.
