Erratic Fuel Guage

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a great Easter Weekend.

OK - so 35i is back on the road after a few months in a locked dry garage - battery is ok and fairly new.

it was on 25% tank so took her over and filled her to 75% on the fuel guage.
Went for a drive with Grant in his 30i over the easter weekend, we parted ways and i had a somewhat 'spicy' drive home across dartmoor. On returning home I noticed the fuel level was around 35% its a stage 2+ mapped car so its greedy.....

Two days later i return to the car, fuel showing a little more maybe 40%, the guage has settled so thats ok.

Over the day I noticed the guage varies quite a bit, i did a few miles and the guage was back to about 25% and after waiting on a hill for a moment i got the low fuel gong (at 50 mile fuel remaining). After that i had a brief stop at the shops, returned to the car and its showing about 30% and 94 miles range!!!!
I drive it back to where I store it, about 3 miles park it and sit for 5 min and its on 25%

So, is there any way of testing the fuel guage? I have seen a few poor videos on youtube using the trip button to activate a cluster test but cant make it work on my car.

Any ideas???

I doubt that’s it’s the fuel gauge in the dash…much more likely it’s the float level in the ‘bucket’ in the fuel tank..
