EPB failure - Parking Brake deactivated

Hi guys

I'm new here, and I'll start with a problem :) I know isn't a good way to start but... I hope someone can help me, please.
Some weeks ago EPB was deactivated, I'll check the actuators and all are ok (with 12v power they turn left and right).
I've bought a professional tester (foxwell 520 pro) and any errors aren't present in ABS or other system (wheel speed sensors are ok).
In EPB menu I've 3 errors, see attached.

Can someone help me ?

Hi, it’s been known several times for the handbrake to malfunction due to a below par battery & it takes a trip to the bmw dealer to upload updated software to enable correct operation again.
How old is your battery and do you leave the car unused for any length of time? :?

The problem is that if the battery has been low at some point (even if it’s fully charged now) it throws the ‘wheel speed sensor’ error which then stops the handbrake for working and as advised it needs to have a software update carried out by BMW. I had that issue on my E89.

It’s quite clear from the errors you’ve shown that it’s a wheel speed sensor issue which has been caused by a power issue. So as before you’ll need to get BMW to run a software update.

Thank's so much.

Good advise.

I've another questions about my baby: I'm still remap the ECU, and some technician has told me about scavenging, in your opinion is it possible to have it ? the N54 engine have a variable phase system managed by ECU ...

Is it dangerous for engine ?

Thank's so much !!

Hi, Anyone can help me please.

I'm suffering precisely the same symptoms with my Z4 E89. The Electronic Hand Brake fault materialised having recharged the flat battery.
However I don't have anywhere near the technical skills that you guys have.

Can anyone recommend a reliable BMW electronics specialist who can fix this problem for me? Naturally, I'm trying to avoid involving the local BMW dealership who claim to be blissfully unaware that this problem exists and want to charge me a fortune to diagnose the fault.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't need to be an electronics specialist, just a BMW specialist.

If you're local to Manchester then Darren Wood in Stockport is the best place to go. If you're a southerner then Birds is recommended.

Many thanks for the suggestion. Stockport would be closer for me thanks.

Anyone in the Sheffield area would be preferable.

Thanks nonetheless.

Dear all,

Just a quick line to say that I have managed to get the problem sorted in line with earlier suggestions, by taking the Z4 to a local independent BMW specialist for a software update.

As anticipated, it worked a treat and only cost £90.00. It seems the independents are fully aware of this problem and similar, which the BMW network fail to accept or recognise. Shame on them. If this was a general IT Software fault, a software company would be expected to release a fix FOC, rather than using the opportunity to milk their customers.

Ashley.

Said it before people need to visit trading standards and report to DVLA. This brake is safety critical, it shouldn't fail.
BMW should at least fix for free.
