Just a quick shout out to Martin (Enuff Zed) as this guy knows z4 inside out. He came down to sort out my roof , established it was the two hinge rams at fault. (No pressure on seals) removed roof and replaced both rams. Now everything is working perfectly!! Absolute diamond of a guy!
Cheers Buddy ! Gary

Deserved praise for Martin. He knows his stuff and he's nice with it, not always that common

[ref]Gaz5855[/ref], thank you. First time I’ve swapped out hinges and it went better than expected.

For future reference if anyone has the same issue: the roof unlocked and lifted a few inches then slammed back down. The pump kept running and it would repeat the lift and drop over and over again.
Two motors, three pumps, a control module. No change. No leaks and all the pipes in good order.
Only thing left was an internal failure in one of the hinge rams. When pressure built up it escaped across the seal. As both rams run off common output unions it means when the pressure dropped across the bad ram then all the hydraulic pressure took that easy route.
So impossible to determine which one had failed.
I headed back to Worthing with a good pair of rams and we swapped both over with the roof removed.
All back together and it works fine.
Unfortunately I cannot so far work out a way to generate enough pressure to determine which ram has failed on the bench.

Impressive enuff_zed
I almost feel like it would be worth my while driving my car to you, so you can point and laugh at all the bits that could do with sorting out :D

Nice to read. Always great to hear about cool guys in the wild. If your ever in dxb enuff, there's always cold beers in my fridge.

Doubt that, he doesn’t like warm working environments :poke:

Good chap though, even likeable

enuff-zed saved the O/P a kings ransom in cash by correctly ID'ing and repairing this issue. A dealership would have charged ungodly amounts for the parts and labor to do this repair.
