so i did the navi upgrade according to UNIONJACK's instructions and it works flawlessly! thank you unionjack!

i changed the voice to british female. since im an american i believe there is a difference in translation..

when im coming to a turn the voice says " take the second turning on the right/left"

im assuming "second" = "Next"

the first time this happened i ended up making a 20 mile U-Turn! haha

so is that what you guys say over there?

*mini self hijack*
i also get somthing like " correct dest guidance unavailable" when i turn down certain roads. the road appears on the map so its not like im on a road that hasent been updated on the dvd disc...

any explinations???

Nope, second is in fact what it sounds like... the one after "next"

it says take the "second turning" but it really is the NEXT turn.

second turning to me means Not THIS turn, but the Next one

no... there is no "this"... next is literally that.. the turning you see before you. (that's how I understand it anyway)... not sure if there's any more UK guys still awake (it's 1:10am) so you might have to wait for our morning for a second opinion... I'm off to bed now... goodnight :zzzz:

I agree with Monsieur Specteurrrrrrrr.....

Next to me, is the next one I come to (ie the first one).

The second turning on the left would be the one after the first.

this is what i mean. but the according to the nav voice the second turning is the first one

I don't understand! :? Why the confusion?:?
If you are driving along and it states "take the second turning on the right", it implies there are two turnings close together, and there would not be time to allow you to pass the first, and then say take the next turning as you would already be on top of it. I rarely hear "take the second turning on the right". However, when I do, I do indeed take the second turning on the right and it is always correct.

i dont know but maybe its just me.

when i hear take the next turn that means take the first one you see.

when i hear ake the second turn that means dont take the first one but take the second turn.

the navigation tells me take the second turn but in reality it is the Next turn. This is the confusion i am talking about.

the purpose of this post is to see whether or the euro english speaker translation of SECOND is different from us american english speakers.

Mmh, a bit confused about this, I know you guys have a butchered version of the good old queens english but next means just that as mentioned ie. the next turn being the 1st you come to, second turn means just that as well, take the turn after the next turn, ie the 2nd turning :D

the voice on mine regularly tells me wrong.. ie "keep to the left" meaning a junction 1/2mile away when im approaching a junction...

i just follow the screen instead otherwise id be taking wrong turns all over the shop...

Ah, but there is the difference. Keep to the left means, don't turn off to the right if the right lane is an exit lane.

Turn left is an exit, keep left just means go straight :D

agreed and im used to it, kinda, but it's not incredibly intuitive is it ?

my issue is actually with the distance guaging, as if there are two contraflow type splits it will warn you well in advance when there might be one already.. :S

ive never actually gone wrong with it, so i guess it's just a knack.

You think English or Taffy is bad, go to Glasgow. I lived in Staffs, worked in Wolverhamton and B-ham, the National Office was in Houndslow, my patch was the Black Country and travelled over most of the Midlands and up to Scotland. This SoutSide Chicago boi didn' know what the term dialect meant anymore. I can speak and understand many of the lexicon. I could be considered a polyglot of sorts. Now that you read all that, vote for my photo! :driving:
