The Frenchman got binned because a penalty try was given and if the player responsible for the penalty try can be identified it's a mandatory yellow card.

Even if May had been penalised, it was by the French goal line so there would have been no mandatory card and it would have been down to the ref to decide if one was warranted

Fair play to them, they played well in the second half and England didn’t.
