Engine warning light is on

Well I had my exhaust modified today and afterwards the engine light was on, so I got the fitter to check they hadnt damaged a sensor but they check and said that all the sensors are further up towards the engine.

I still suspect an O2 sensor but is there anything I should do myself before letting BMW do a diagnostic

Any pics of the mod? :)

Tooooo much of a coincidence that a light has come on. Take it back and let them sort it. Clearly their fault in my opinion.

If they don't have the expertise, they should cover the cost.

No pics yet but it's the mod from the group buy, bypass pipes as seen here

Not sure if it sounds that different yet but as I was peed off about the engine light this may be clouding my judgement

They didn't have any diagnostic equipment so I have asked my local dealer to ring me monday so I can get it diagnosed and take it from there. All I can do is ask if the fault could be caused by fitting the exhaust. if the worst comes to the worst i do have extended warranty but this still means a £100 excess :x

Exactly what I thought but until I can prove anything I don't want to jump to conclusions

Car is driving fine so I imagine it's a sensor and I guess they can easily get damaged so i don't think its anything to worry about

It does seem too much a coincidence, but it must be just that. I can't imagine any conceivable scenario where removing and reinstalling the silencer could cause the engine light to trigger. Let's see what codes come out of it.

I'd agree with bcworkz it just seems like an unfortunate coincidence.

Be careful if you ask the dealer, you may give them cause to reject the warranty claim.

Yep good point I won't mention it but if they state something has been damaged and it's not covered I can use this to claim back from the fitter
