Hi guys could anyone shed some light on whether it’s actually possible to fit a 3.0 ,6 cylinder engine from a z4 into a z4 currently running a 2.0.
I don’t suppose it’s cheap nor straight forward I’m genuinely interested in if it can or has been done by any members. I currently own a 2006 z4 roadster 2.0si and a 2007 z4 3.0si coupe. I love both cars but i love the way the coupe pulls in comparison to the little one. I don’t want to change the little one because after buying it as a lockdown, can’t go to work so let’s go for a drive in the sunshine thing I’ve actually grown to love it dearly and therefore spent a fortune to keep it right.

Much cheaper to just sell the 2.0 and buy a 3.0, unless you're going to do it yourself.

If you're going to swap the engine why not make it unique and see if you can drop in a v6 Busso or a B58? :evil:

That is about 100 times more difficult :wink:

As far as swapping an n52: I think you need to replace pretty much the complete drivetrain, as the gearbox (and consequently the propshaft, diff, driveshafts, rear trailing arms/bearings/flanges etc) are different too. The original gearbox bellhousing might fit, but that 2.0 gearbox is too weak for the 3.0si, likewise the diff, so if you don't swap these, chances are the car will not have the long life it was predicted to have. Some ecu programming will be involved too.
So if you have a complete n52 z4 wreck, where the mechanics are still ok, then why not. (changing these things over sounds like much, but in reality it's 2-3 days work I estimate, its bolt off-bolt on)
Dont forget the brakes, springs, shocks, arb's, as the car gets heavier with bigger engine, gearbox, diff, they are different too.
