Engine start buttons!

What is the general consensus on engine start buttons, I seen a few for sale but not sure about them??? (secretly I think I'd like one  )
What do you all think?

you will still need the key for the ignition lock etc so waste of time on our Z4's more to do to stert it.

Blacksapphire has done this mod though IIRC

You're all just saying 'what's the point?' 'cause the Z doesn't have one :P

My old S2000 had one and it's just a cool wee toy. NIce to have but not needed. Honda started putting them on the Civic etc these days so it's become a bit diluted but still a nice wee feature imo.

i also liked it in my old S2K - but unlike the new BMW's with the block kiey its a bit pointless.

Got it in my wife's 3 series - completely and utterly pointless as you still have to stick the fob into the dashboard - actually annoying to be honest. Using a key is so much nicer and easier.

A start button only makes sense if you've got the full keyless thing going on - i.e. just have to have the fob in your pocket. I've had this on hire cars and I did grow to love it.

Why a stupid button??
The feeling of turning your key is much better instead pressing a button
+100

Turning the key is much more of a mechanical action, it's part of the process of firing up a big engine IMO.

I am in two minds about it, there is IMO something quite sexy in pushing a button and I just love the noise as it kicks into life, but the ignition is on the wrong side and after 25 years of driving that's just plain weird. Would I pay to have it fitted as a retro, nah

Its bloody nuisance tbh. I have keyless entry and start in my company car and it's a pain in the a*se!! Its instinctive to put a key in an ignition and turn it. In mine all I have to do is dip the cluch, press the button and it starts,BUT where do you put the keys you still have in your hand ffs!!I put them in the ashtray and they rattle themselves stupid. My wife loves it as she keeps them in her handbag,so all she does is walk up to the car, press the button on the door handle to unlock, gets in, puts the handbag on the passenger seat, dips the clutch, presses the button and away. Must've been designed by a woman lol..... As a bloke I prefer having somehere to hang the keys and an ignition switch is perfect.

It was a bit of a novelty on the S2000 10 years ago as nobody else did it, now you find them all over the place. Wouldn't mind it if it was on an Aston martin Vantage V12 though! :)

the only cool start buttons i have seen are:-

Mclaren Merc SLR with the thumb on top of the gear level
Konniggsegg (or however you spell it?) where you press and hold 2 buttons in the circualar dial -wel cool.

other than that i wouldnt bother.
