Engine spinning over with a high pitch,, no starting

Hey,

Went to start the car after a 10 day layup over Christmas and it caught first spin as normal but then died , engine now spinning like no compression, high turn over speed and no start, had something like this before and tried the full throttle to help compression but not working now

Any other ideas ??

Cheers

Rob

You sure the engine is spinning and it's not just the starter motor turning over. Can't see how you can loose compression on all 6 cyls ?
Sounds like the starter is fooked

Hey,

Ya, it started on the flat open throttle once I put some carb cleaner in the inlet directly.its happened before and also around Christmas as I washed it and moved it ten feet and parked up for ten days ???

Does sound like borewash, although these cars are not particularly known for it. First I’d be checking all the sparkplugs are tight and while your there drop a teaspoon of engine oil into each cylinder - that will get the compression back and it should fire (with a bit of smoke out the back for a few seconds).

Other thing you could try is turning it over for a while with the fuse for the fuel pump removed. Then replace it and it should start.

+1 borewash. The starting mixture is very rich, so if the engine is shut off before the cylinders heat up, the fuel will wash the oil off the cylinder walls resulting in lack of compression.
